I've written this before on this forum... at the Bellevue pre-ship event, all of the robots at the event were 6WD and all could climb the ramp (although with one of the rookie 'bots it was kind of touch and go there for a while.) The six veterans could all easily climb the ramp, and the four best chassis could pretty much do it up or down, straight or diagonally. So, I'm trying to figure out what's so hard about it? (I do confess that fanatic attention to CG seems to be a PNW trait. Over the last two seasons I've seen pics of bots from other parts of the country that looked really tippy.) Wooden Thunder and Top Gun are pretty primitive compared to some of the big-bux teams, but they don't tip easily...

Re: Ramp Climbing Adventures

Megamaid can now get up the ramp after a quick adjustment. We have to drive backwards, though, as we only have 2 drive wheels (plus two omniwheels in back). Coming back down is the hard part.

Re: Ramp Climbing Adventures

We tried the ramp for the first time at the CO scrimmage and we fell on our side and took the side of the ramp with us. Oh yeah, our robot has to be driven backwards up the ramp because of our ball-collector.

Re: Ramp Climbing Adventures

maybe i am wrong. i guess with 30 degrees and very little friction to grab onto i figured not many teams would me able to do the ramp. i also thought about how 6 wheel drive robots probably would not be able to do it easily because you would create a teeter-totter. am i wrong with my predictions?

Re: Ramp Climbing Adventures

We originally planned on going up the ramp, but for some reason our chassis ended up being wider than long. So, we tip either way...

Re: Ramp Climbing Adventures

we can go up and down the ramp and even score three's from the ramp! and like Greg said we really shake the alliance platform, one time we were accidentally in high gear and smashed our way up. you should have seen the look on the driver in the middle station . it was good enough for the news

we used the dimensions for width too. we can still climb. also down too. although we could use some suspension for that. dynamic brakes arent the best for that.

Careful design helps. We made sure that the weight was low and far enough back that we don't tip onto the top of the ramp until the middle wheels have gone over the edge. It works nicely for us

Re: Ramp Climbing Adventures

I dont have a pic or a vid, but our driver roughly got the bot up the ramp. We asked him to bring it down... and so he pulled back on the joy sticks.. and the bot didnt even touch the ramp, it hopped right of f the platform to the carpet. Talk about crazy!

Re: Ramp Climbing Adventures

The first time we tried to climb the ramp, our robot flew up the ramp, crashed THROUGH the rear wall on the ramp, and smashed into the back wall of our shop.

We spent the next thirty minutes picking all of the pieces.

Our robot can go up the ramp forwards and backwards. Its the coming off that's hard!
