When loud "noisemakers" were a constant item in the stands, there was a need for a louder level of music to even hear it. Since FIRST has taken steps to abolish most loud noisemakers, there hasn't been the need to keep the music decibles as high as in the past.

Music in the pits is not beneficial to most teams, as there are constant "pit announcements" and calls to queue. The DJ would not be aware when the pit area needed their speakers for an announcement.

The most frustrating problem I have had with the music, is that the DJ's tend to "take a break" when they start the music, and leave it continue playing during field announcements. Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy the music at the events, but I also like to hear the field announcements and introductions.

In some arenas, the speakers are directed to specific sections of seating, maybe if you wanted a louder experience, you could have your team sit there? (I know I have moved out of a few of these sections because it was too direct.)

If you like it really loud go to ucf and sit near the top of the bottom section, its way too loud there.

Re: Louder music at the Competitions

I think the music is plenty loud as it is. It's enough to get you pumped, but not so loud that you can't hear anything. I would not mind if they turned it down a little, even.

Re: Louder music at the Competitions

Even though we like our music louder that it is (I do too)...I highly doubt that FIRST is going to make it louder because not everyone can handle the high volumes, and they will probably take into consideration that there are people with special considerations such as those with sensitive ears (like a friend of mine), etc. AND the fact that it can damage your eardrums...so they probably have a cap on it, and I would think that the arena's do too as they might be held responsible.

Just my 2 cents...

Re: Louder music at the Competitions

Since FIRST is really pushing SAFETY this year they should expand into the safety as it relates to sound levels. The common workplace has standards that are set by OSHA and other state and federal agencies.

It would only take 1 person to file a lawsuit claiming that their hearing was damaged for the crunch to come down on the music levels so that they are monitored at ALL events.

Speaking as someone that already has hearing damage as a result of loud noises, I would welcome regulation at the events.

Re: Louder music at the Competitions

I too like bass a lot. I would like louder music, but everyone above make good points as per why it should be quieter.

i propose we keep the treble where it is, or down a little. then we can crank the bass up. it won't be too hard on the ears overall, but you still get the rythmic pounding that gets your adrenaline going.

No kidding... just the pure pressure from the sound was tiring last year, and by the end of the regional I was exhausted.

Personally, I bring my own iPod into the queue/driver's station to listen to something I prefer over some of the less pleasurable music that the DJs have been known to play (i.e. Uncensored Eminem).
