Re: Amazing robot plays
At GLR, my team, 1015 made it to the finals. We were ranked number 11, but still got the 8th slot for alliance captains. Of course slots 8 and 1 played each other for the first match. Alliance 1 had two identical robots, 15## and 1114 (I think). They both had autonomous shooters and treads.
In the first of our two finals matches (we lost both...), 1015 was on defense as always during autonomous but couldn't move the twins because of the treads. But later in the match in our pushing contests, we disabled BOTH of the robots... by detaching their treads . It was just so sweet to see ![]() |

Az was a very competitive regional this year, all of our matches were VERY close, and I am still stunned that we managed to get the upper hand on the high rollers alliance. |

Re: Amazing robot plays
We managed to keep all three opponent robots off the ramp, with 2 wheel drive, and casters in the front. I don't have a clue how we managed that.

Re: Amazing robot plays
During the quarterfinals at VCU 343 and 975 ran smack into each other and both bots flipped each other at the same time. SOAP probably has the video of this, if you ever want to see it, you should check it out. It's awesome. I actually happened to be right in the middle of them on the sidelines.

Re: Amazing robot plays
Another great play was then we were first testing autonomous. We ended up giong straight (at an angle) into anothe rrobot who was shotting. Short story short, it started shooting balls at the judges.

Re: Amazing robot plays
There were many great plays, but one really merits recognition.
The first seeded alliance, 229, 1126, and 1567 had just steamrolled through quarter and semifinals. Their strategy centered around 1126 unloading 8+ balls during autonomous. They were facing the 2nd seed alliance with 191, 250, and 211. First seed dominated the first match 87-14, using old strategy. But second match, something surprising happened. During autonomous, 1126 didn't shoot any balls. At first I thought that their shooter was broken, but later realized that 250 was strafing back and forth in front of 1126's camera, so that it couldn't get a lock on the light. Many teams before this have tried to simply block 1126's amazing autonomous by ramming into it, but their robot would still make the majority of balls in. This was a brilliant late-game strategy that shocked the whole stadium. This strategy paid off as 2nd seed alliance won match #2, 12-9. They did it again in the rubber match, but 1st seed alliance adapted and made up for the loss of autonomous with a few quick shots on goal late in the game and getting on the ramp. This was easily the best two games that I've seen for Aim High. [edit] I now know that it was actually a camera malfunction. [/edit] Last edited by Shu Song : 03-13-2006 at 09:42 PM. Re: Amazing robot plays
<edit>Same tale as irishninja: i posted this before i realized that he told the story in short.
In one of our seeding matches at UTC we programmed the autonomous for ramming a shooter bot. I don't think it ran right but what it did was run either into the intended auton shooter or another one in their back corner just as they were running past, knocking them to a 90 degree angle, perfectly placed so all 10 balls were fired at the judges. It was pretty funny to watch (no one was injured), and the announcer made a timeless comment like: "(team name) is moving along, and Oh! 694 hits them and it looks like all their balls are being fired at the judges! poor judges!" Re: Amazing robot plays
Not necessarily amazing in terms of unique-ness, but I always love when teams push up their teammates who barely can't make it up the ramp. I don't know, something about that brings a smile to my face...and cheers in the crowd. I love it.

Re: Amazing robot plays
Some of my team's favorite plays from Buckeye Regional:
Team 135 had a a fearfully accurate shooter. Once they were in position, they could unload all the ball's that they had collected in a very short time period. In the Quarter Finals, We effectively shut them down, shadowing them and making sure they couldn't get into position. It was quite a sight to see our Ice Cube ramming 135's massive machine. Team 703 had a fearful autonomous mode. They would go on the ramp and unload all ten balls into the center goal. It was quite a sight. After we lost the first match in the semi-finals, our programmer quickly changed our autonomous to run an intercept course. It was successful and we ran a collision course right into 703, winning autonomous. The yells from our alliance and our programmer were enourmous. Team 141 sat on the ramp, blocking 703 from getting into position. Towards the end, 1018 pushed the struggling and massive 461 up onto the ramp and still had time to get back on the floor and move up onto the remaining slot on the ramp, winning the match for us. |

Re: Amazing robot plays
My favorite play might be a little biased but it was autonomous mode in the semi final match at UCF regional. 357 1523 and 1902 we were playing 233 190 and 744. 357 went out to hit pink and got picked by 190, but 1902 went and dumped 10 balls in the corner like they always do, but 1523 randomly started shooting 7 out of 10 balls into the top goal. They had never shot before from the center, they knew they had the range but never once actually tried it. They lined it up for the first time and made 7 out of 10 balls! absolutely stunning everyone in the stadium it helped lead us to a victory in the semi finals and propel us out to finals.
The coolest auto was 190 and 233 in thier first qualifying they came out and each shot like 8/10 balls into the blue center goal, scored a staggering amount of points in auton. |

Re: Amazing robot plays
here our some of my favorite plays:
one is during our final qualifying match one of our alliance partners(620) was DQed for a unacceptable modification to a wire. so that left us with two bots and not having to worry bout a back bot. so the match was now 3 bots to 2 bots. the other alliance had teams 435(robodogs and very good shooter) and 343(our later alliance partner in the championship rounds) both of thse bots had treads and awesome shooters. well my team won defense first and both bots on the alliance went straight for 435 and 343. while the other team was pushing 343 around, i went after 435. while pushing 435 back i hit 343 and started pushing both teams back and away from the center goal. then at the end of the match i was trying to get up on the ramp but i couldn't(which was a good thing)because 435 trying coming in behind us but our teams robot slid off the ramp and hit 435 keeping them from shooting. my other favorite match was the very last match in the finals (finals match 1-2) when the 7th seeded alliance was going against the 4th seeded alliance. the blue alliance was 1610, 343, and 1598(7th seeded alliance) and the red alliance was 384, 435, and 1522(4th seeded alliance). during that match the teflon on the right front wheel of our robot was coming off so i decided to play defense and i was ramming 384 and 435 non-stop to keep them from shooting into the center goal.(the match before this one i damaged 384 so badly that they had to take a timeout to repair their robot ) my alliance ended up winning that match along with the regional. can't wait to see 384 in atlanta. |

Re: Amazing robot plays
The reason for the loss of shooting in Auto mode was the fact that we lost the crimp on our camera. We fixed it between the 2nd and 3rd matches but i was still not operational.
