FIRST Milage

I was bored in class one day and started thinking about all the milage I have under my belt based on my various competitions...so I was curious...how much milage have you racked up (sea, land, and air) since your time in FIRST traveling to various competitions?

Do trips back and forth to mentor count? If you count those (2006 season only):
50 mile round trip, twice a week during build season (6 weeks): 600 miles
about 4 other trips back and forth: 200 miles
80 mile round trip to buckeye, 3 times: 240 miles (The next 3 days)

1040 miles so far this season though this saturday. My poor jeep!

This might seem like alot of driving just to mentor a team, but its been more than worth evey mile ive driven to help. I wouldnet trade helping my team for anything!

I'm going to compare to that. I drove four weekends to the build site (310 miles round trip) totaling 1240 miles. Plus I will be going to the Philadelphia Regional (390 miles round trip) which will put me around 1630 miles total. To early to think about off season at this time. - my poor Jeep!

Re: FIRST Milage

Well over 10,000 miles (two championships, several regionals)

and one SPEEDING TICKET!

1st time I went to a regional, at Rutgers in '97, we (family) drove through several miles of fog in the mountains in PA. Could not see the speed limit signs in the fog patches, where it changed from 65 to 55. So once we got past the fog, I hit the resume button => 70.

Re: FIRST Milage

These were all calculated by Google maps, not 100% sure if they're accurate.

Start address: Appleton, WI
End address: Cleveland, OH (Buckeye Regional)
Distance: 538 mi (about 9 hours 40 mins)

Start address: Appleton, WI
End address: Ypsilanti, MI (Great Lakes Regional)
Distance: 469 mi (about 8 hours 16 mins)

Start address: Appleton, WI
End address: West Lafayette, IN (Boilermaker Regional)
Distance: 316 mi (about 6 hours 17 mins)

Total Miles: 1323

And that's not counting the return trip.

Re: FIRST Milage

Does going back and fourth to school on weekends/holidays count? How about going from our inn to the location of the competition [Inn --> Georgia Dome and Waterloo Inn --> UW]. If not..aww man...here's the breakdown for the regionals:

2002-2003
Home to Hershey's Centre: 21.9 km x 6 [back and fourt, 3 days] = 131.4 km

2003-2004
Home to Hershey's Centre: 21.9 km x 6 [back and fourt, 3 days] = 131.4 km

2004-2005
Home to Hershey's Centre: 21.9 km x 6 [back and fourt, 3 days] = 131.4 km
Home to Inn: 1,627 km x 2 [back and fourth] = 3222 km
Inn to Georgia Dome: 6.2764416 km x 6 [back and fourth] = 37.6586496 km

2005-2006 [Upcoming, this year]
Home to Hershey's Centre: 21.9 km x 6 [back and fourt, 3 days] = 131.4 km
Home to Waterloo Inn: 101 km x 2 [back and fourth] = 202 km
Waterloo Inn to University of Waterloo: 2.7 km x 6 [back and fourth, 3 days] = 16.2 km

TOTAL: 4003.4586496 km [which would be 2487.6338732246623232 miles...]

It'd be more...if I'd included all those back and fourth trips from school to home and vica versa. IF we go to ATL *knock wood* then it'll be more as well...

Re: FIRST Milage

I put together a small list of my travels, not including what must be no less than 1000 miles travelling locally to stores, sponsors, and many other locations. Has anyone topped my number (I'm pretty sure a large number - more than likely the Senior Mentors - have)?

#xPlace: Dist(Round Trip) Total
1xNJ Regional: 35(70) 70
3xNYC Regional: 20(40) 120
1xPhoenix Regional: 2200(4400) 4400
1xOrlando Championship: 1100(2200) 2200
1xHouston Championship: 1400(2800) 2800
2xAtlanta Championship: 750(1500) 3000
1xBrazil!!: 4820(9640) 9640

TOTAL: 22230 Miles!!!

Re: FIRST Milage

Lessee...(not all of this was driven, mind you):

Since Championship 2005:

Driving back and forth to 1293's home base: 23.6 mi * 80 trips (low estimate) = 1416 miles
Capital Clash (flying, but who cares?): 968 miles
FVC Orangeburg: 83.6 miles
Florida Regional: 1,112 miles + 260 miles = 1,372 miles
Peachtree Regional: 446 miles

2005 and earlier:

Manchester Kickoff 2005: 1956 miles (flown, thankfully)
Championship 2004: 426 miles
Championship 2005: 426 miles
Robot Rodeo 2004: 858 miles
Florida Regional 2005: 858 miles
2005 trips to 1293land: 1416 miles

Grand Total: 10,225.6 miles (!)
Billfred-Driven Grand Total: 5,337.6 miles

(Man, maybe I should apply for a gas rewards credit card after all. )

Re: FIRST Milage

Wow.. I need to really sit down and look at this.

Now, would you count flights with the team, and charted bus trips as well, or just things I drove to?

I'll calculate both one of these days, but seeing as I've been in FIRST since 2001, I'm sure it's plenty.
