Unique Strategy

Whats the most unique strategy your team has seen this year?

At the buckeye regional, team 703 (dominated everyone) was completely held scoreless because a team just sat on the ramp. 703 could only shoot from the ramp and the team blocking them just sat there and pushed 703 around. It was fabulous all around. That was a brilliant strategy and it was thought of inbetween elimination matches!!

Well, I don't think that's too amazing. Pushing the team onto the ramp and keeping them there would be cool. Sorta happened to my team, which during our stint with 2WD was pushed onto the lip of the ramp with our drive wheels floating around contentedly.

The team didn't push them onto the ramp to prevent scoring, they prevented them from going onto the ramp to score.
67 did the same thing at GLR against 451. The only differance was they waited at the bottom of the ramp instead of on top.

222 had a similar idea but they had the power to move the robots on the ramp out of the way.

Re: Unique Strategy

At BAE, somebody pushed Monty Tech.(I beleive) into the gap between the side ramp and the main ramp, thus pinning them legally for the rest of the match. It was ingenuitive to say the least.

Re: Unique Strategy

At Phoenix team 987 scored almost all their balls during autonomous mode, but they always went to the same place to shoot them. In our semifinals match, we tried to program our robot (1717) to ram into them and throw them off, but we were like .00001 seconds off from the necessary drive time and bumped into them but didn't throw them off. A team they faced in the finals managed to do what we tried to do, and ended up winning.

We did something similar at GLR, we actually got two of our opponents in the side goal area totally Austin Powers style, so they couldn't move. It was pretty hilarious, and extremely effective.

Re: Unique Strategy

At Detroit regional, 469 parked next to 217 to prevent them from being pushed around while trying to score. On the other end of the field, 1506 was preventing 703 from getting on the ramp and score. Amazing match ! (finals : 1506, 469 and 217 against 703, 818 and 1602)

Re: Unique Strategy

832 also had to get onto the ramp to score and did so effectively.

An interesting strategy I saw at Peachtre was when there was an alliance of 3 shooters and 1 was not working. The shooter bot that was not working at the time played as the back bot during defense and "set-up to shoot". As soon as the other alliance's offense round ended, 2 of their robots rushed to play defense on the robot that was not working leaving the other 2 shooter bots wide open to score and then win the match. This strategy was tricky and worked pretty well.

Another strategy I saw was when there was an alliance of all dumpers against an alliance of assorted robots. The alliance of the different types of robots were on offense first and there were no points scored during the autonomous round. The team of shooters and dumpers went and score a few points and then rushed back before their offensive round eneded to go and camp out in front of the corner goals.
They camped there for the rest of the match. Although they scored very few points, the alliance of dumpers did not score any at all.

Re: Unique Strategy

At BMR we (Teams 292, 1501 and 1741) had to go against Teams 135 (undefeated in qualifying),1024 and 1502 in the semi finals. After we got a 20+ ball score we effectively got 135 and 1024 at their end of the field and waltzed with them through their 40 second round and the free-for-all. They didn't score and we went on to the finals.
We came in second but thanks anyways to teams 292 (for picking us) and 1741 for harassing. Team 1741 had to call a time during the SF as their motors were overheating from all the pushing. They used hand fans and ice
Congrats to the winners 1272, 85 and 1319 on a game well played
