Re: Amazing robot plays
There were a lot of great plays at GLR. But one sticks out in my head, mainly because it was my team that did it but sill it was great. We were in an alliance with 1015 and 27. it was the second match of out elim against the powerhouse alliance of 1503 1114 and 67. we got smashed the first match...mainly because they won auto mode. (they got like a 30 point advantage the first match to start off.) The second match we come out shooting. we hit all of out balls in auto mode i think. we were just on target with every ball. we won auto mode. it was sweet. then we continued to go through the match, with retaliation from 67, to shoot and make balls. we would have won the match except for a last minute rally from 1503 and 1114. they put in like 7 or 8 balls at the end. 27 did manage to get up the ramp. we lost 59-49. it was such a sweet match.

Re: Amazing robot plays
We had two quite memorable plays at Pitt this weekend-
First one was when we lost our right side drive chain and our awesome driver (John, the "baldheaded beast ") still managed to get us up onto the ramp, allowing our alliance to score that sweet 25-point bonus that won the match for us.The second and most interesting was when we were in a huge hurry to get up onto the ramp towards the end of the time and there was a poofball sitting at the base of the ramp right in line with our wheels. Rather than maneuver around the ball, John asked for low gear and gunned it up the ramp. Well, the ball turned our bot sideways and there we were on the ramp, the low side wheels touching the carpet and the other, high side wheels were being held up off of the ramp by the poofball. I am thankful that our CG is so low or we would have tipped then, but with a 103 lb. drivetrain, we were fine, anyway, John gave the bot a twist with the joysticks and all at once I saw our bot spin, the poofball disapear, and our bot more or less jump onto the ramp. I found out when we went to take the bot off of the field that in the process of spinning, the ball had gotten shoved between one of our go-cart tires and a crossmember of the frame (about a two inch space) and smashed/swallowed/shoved up into the bot. When I found it, the ball and been smashed down to about half of its original size and was shoved up between the top of our frame and bottom of our circuit board. ![]() Any toughts/comments? ![]() |

Another fun one was in match 5 of Friday. It was a two-on-two match, two robots didn't make it to the field. Us (1629) and 1727 against 1370 and 365. We knew we'd never beat them unless we played some darn good strategy - and we DID. The best part was the both of us, neither of us very good pushers, holding MOE back together on our end of the field until time was nearly out, then both of us getting onto the ramp to win the match. My absolute favorite play, though, was in autonomous mode of one of the elimination rounds where we had to do a re-start: Our autonomous mode had been shoddy all weekend, lighting problems as well as problems with the actual camera; we got it working and sank 5 of the 6 balls we shot in autonomous that match. It was an amazing feeling, I'll never forget it. |

With maybe two seconds left the Team 1518 Robot made it onto the ramp after being blocked, with all three alliance robots finishing on the stand- They had either 110 or 130 points- I can't recall which. I remember it vividly because it was the highlight of our weekend- ....(other than being picked by the 8th Alliance) The crowd went nuts at the score Team 1518 Parent/Mentor Harry Ramos Employee of Xerox Corporation Last edited by BaldGuy : 15-03-2006 at 12:06. |

Re: Amazing robot plays
Our Team has video Taped the whole Finger Lakes Regional so I'm in the process of digitizing it but I may need to find something to compress the files since they are about 700 MB each match first so it's actually downloadable. I'll see how far I get

Re: Amazing robot plays
Here are some stories boasting our own awesomeness
![]() 1) It was a match on Saturday morning of the BAE GSR. We were paired with 1138 and 1247. Our robot was build in the wider-than-long orientation so we couldn't get up the ramp. It was a fairly boring game cause there were few robots that could score until we agreed to have 1138 push us up the ramp. 1247 got up first, then we were pushed up, and in the last second of the game 1138 managed to find themselves on the ramp. The sound that erupted from our team was incredible. It was such a good feeling to be able to get up the ramp. We would have tied had 1138 not gotten up the ramp. 2) A match on the Friday of the BAE Regional. We weren't feeling to good cause our robot can't score, plus we ended up going up against one of the strongest shooters. Our programmer said that it might not shoot, and that he wasn't sure yet. So, we angled our robot towards the path of the sharp shooter and collided with them in autonomous keeping them from scoring. Their plastic omni-wheels didn't help the situation as we then proceeded to push them all over the field. 3) Again, the BAE Regional. I forget all of the match details, and what teams were involved. We were queing for the match where we got on the ramp. through a series of odd and confusing events, five 'bots find themselves not in their intended orientation amongst the ramp on the red alliance's side. A picture was posted as "Great Defensive Strategy" or something like that. |

. The arm band's power was increased as well as the trajectory, and as far as I know a bit of practice went on outdoors. We were worried about the speed limit, but it didn't seem to be strictly enforced (we were not shooting hot, just close after the increase (11.6 m/s-ish) heh, we could still go faster/farther if we want to).But trust me, our whole team was ecstatic after that first test. I would guess that 3/4 of the team figured it wouldn't work the first time . Just glad it worked out in the long run!Probably my favorite auton periods involved 86 spitting into the goal all of their balls within just a few seconds. Also the time when 86 got blocked in auton was pretty sweet (I think it was by 1345). |

Re: Amazing robot plays
Not to be biased, but my favorite autonomous plays have been whenever we (190) go out to do our thing, and another robot aims at us and hits us, sending us off track. Then you see our turret (with 450-degrees of available rotation) find the light, lock-on, and start firing again, wasting a max of one-ball during the initial collision. It's quite a site to see!
If you wanna see for yourself: http://www.soap.circuitrunners.com/2...ida/fl_031.wmv Although it was cooler to see in Match 39, but the camera doesn't really focus on us. |

We were indebted to 27's and your strategizing before the match (other than that it didn't leave time for food before the match )We apparently lost that match by the smallest margin of any in the eliminations except for one. (and that one was a loss for them, where apparently the twins' treads again both broke down ) |

Re: Amazing robot plays
Today at the boilermaker, team 85 and 135 filled up the center goal. It was backed up with about 4-5 balls that waiting to drop down from the angle part right before the tube. This was one of a couple highlights of our day for team 85.
