Amen, Koko Ed!
To pull through the difficulties they have dealt with over the past year, and successfully emerge as a Chairman's Winner is remarkable!

CONGRATULATIONS GUNN ROBOTICS!

MOE will be at Championships dancing as usual, so come on over and join us again.

Re: 2006 Silicon Valley Regional

Great regional overall. Congrats to 192 for chairmans. Congrats on yet another victory for team 254. Is it just me, or do the drivers from 254 blow your mind? They were unbelievably accurate despite the VERY heavy defense. Simply amazing....

GO 1403!!!

Re: 2006 Silicon Valley Regional

Am I the only one who noticed that the Poofs kept one trick up their sleeve? In all the previous matches, their autonomous mode was in low gear. For the FINAL match, they put it in high gear, and prevented 1280 from scoring in auto. VERY GOOD ADAPTATION! Congratulations to all teams, especially the award winners. We're really proud of our mentee, 1970, who were dead last and still kept the spirit up to win the Judges Award for day 2!

Looks as though we're not allowed to post unless we can spout happy talk? Might be worthwhile to step back and ask yourself why you need to resort to censorship to prevent discussion of issues that need to be addressed.

I thought it was a major insult to give the top award to a team that certainly did not embody the spirit of FIRST--unless FIRST strives to be the robotic counterpart to Enron. (Perhaps that IS the message here?)

I would have been fine with Gunn getting the Comeback Team of the Year award. But the Chair award, as with many of the other awards, seemed to be based on politics.

The battery terminal was loose causing it to heat up and the plastic casing caught one fire. It was no problem to fix because all we had to do was to replace the battery.

This website is private and may censor posts as moderators in agreement choose. The bottom line on whether a post is accepted resides with the team who hosts this private forum, so if you feel that you were improperly censored by a moderator who doesn't belong to that team you should take it up with one who does, or Brandon.

Saying a team doesn't embody the spirit of FIRST and that they're something related to a company whose executives (in the eyes of many) made a ton of money and left its employees with next to nothing sounds like a bunch of libel coming from someone who will not identify themselves. This whole topic (GRT last season) has been stricken from ChiefDelphi before and I wouldn't be surprised if your posts were deleted. I’m not as quick as some are to delete posts, so this post of mine may disappear in an attempt to purge your comments from the website. I’ve got no problem with that if other moderators feel it’s necessary, but you can rest assured that I won't be using my status as a moderator to keep you quiet on this topic. That's a decision for others to make who don't have a dog in this fight.

There is no such thing as a Comeback Team of the Year Award. That's something you should take up with FIRST. It kind of sounds like an "Overcoming Obstacles" Award, though, and I don't really think that you'd want to think of yourself as an obstacle for a robotics team now would you? Especially since leading to the prevention of students being able to participate in this program also doesn't seem to be in the spirit of FIRST, which you so nobly claim to be a champion of. I feel that being able to take responsibility for your actions and statements is something that one should learn in this program, and I’m very disappointed that there are forum trolls here who would sit back behind completely indistinguishable forum names and blast a team without fear of scrutiny. Out of curiosity which disgruntled student or parent are you?

I’ll start up or post in a “2006 Thanks / Congrats SVR” thread later on today after I’ve had a chance to organize my thoughts on that topic.

I understand. That's not the question. The question is whether the forum values debate and discussion of issues that may sometimes be unpleasant. And I guess I am finding out the answer to that.

I happen to think it's quite noble to overcome obstacles. That may be a concept foreign (and unpalatable) to many of the overprivileged in this valley.

??? When did I say that? The main factor preventing student participation is the heavy $$$ required (see aforementioned comment on overprivilege).

Does the term ad hominem mean anything to you? I'd much rather discuss the issue than try to fend off a personal attack! Also, am not sure I'd characterize myself as "disgruntled." "Offended" might be a better adjective. (Plus I find it interesting that Gunn already had reservations in Atlanta as of yesterday.) Suffice to say that I'm fortunate to have grown up in an era when freedom of speech was highly valued. I find political correctness to be a dreary and regressive concept, plus it's hard to continue to grow and improve if the only feedback you ever receive is an inane "good job!"

My understanding has been that, because what happened on team 192 involved legal action, the nice folks who give us ChiefDelphi.com have decided that it is in the best interest of this community and their team to abstain from and prohibit any explicit discussion of those events. I can't speak on their behalf, but that seems a wise choice to me.

As such, we've been asked to cast a critical eye on discussion about Gunn and to, at our discretion, somehow alter or remove content which may place ChiefDelphi in an unsolicited and unwarranted position of involvement with these matters.

Re: 2006 Silicon Valley Regional

I would prefer to abstain from entering the conversation, but I would like to add that no matter how much freedom one should have to speak their mind, it's never nice to talk down to a team who persevered and came back to FIRST with a stronger and more spiritual attitude than ever before. We didn't win because of last year; we won because we've worked so hard to accomplish what was once started years ago.

Thanks to all the teams who went to the Silicon Valley Regional 2006, it was an awesome 3 days for me and hopefully we will see you at the Championship in Atlanta.

Thank you for saying that; While I don't know all the "legal" issues that the team had, I think its extremely safe to say that the Chairmans Award is taken VERY seriously. Not only by the teams, but by FIRST and the Judges as well. With that said, I have a hard time believing that FIRST would give a team the Chairmans that didn't deserve it.

And personally, It's not really in the spirit of FIRST to go off and say that a team received an award that they didn't deserve. I'm sure it has happened before, and it'll happen again, but my feeling of the matter is - If you felt they deserved it, congratulate them. If they didn't deserve it, but won it anyways, try to figure out ways to improve on your own team, so you'll have a better chance at it next year.

With that being said, any Chairmans award winner is worthy of a congratulations from me. Congratulations 192, Chairmans is something to be proud of. With any luck, we'll see you in Atlanta next month.
