Re: Net Nanny's

We have Surf Control here... and it, most of the time, doesn't interfere with Robotics related things, unless I'm trying to search information about a certain part or something.

Sometimes Surf Control and other Net Nannies can block the stupidest thing. I had to get an extension on an English paper because all my research material was blocked because of Surf Control...

Re: Net Nanny's

I didn't deal with any network filtering at high school that I know of, but we did have a program called 'fool proof'. It was supposed to keep people from doing anything that might change the computer. So things like installing a program, deleting files, moving icons, renaming files etc. couldn't be done. Or so it was thought.

Needless to say, Foolproof was not fool proof at all. A common practice when the lab techs where not looking was to see who could circumvent the security program the fastest. We came up with some interesting methods.

Of course, I don't condone such things, and really, we never did anything beyond rename some files to get the lab techs attention later on (stuff like 'killroy was here'). I guess we just didn't like that the school didn't trust anyone. But we never broke anything. To my knowledge.

Netnannys are no substitute for attentive lab techs and respectful students.
