Body Worlds.

During the Philly regional, Body worlds is going to be set up near our hotel, and we are going to it... I was wondering if any other teams plan to visit the exhibit and when you are going to be there. If you haven't heard of it, I encourage you to try to ge, as it is REALLY REALLY cool. Check it out here http://www.bodyworlds.com/en/pages/home.asp

Re: Body Worlds.

I'm not particularly squeemish or anything, but am I the only one who finds this really weird? Like, these are the bodies of people who used to walk around just like you and I. They took all the skin off and now they're set up in an exhibit?

I don't know, it just seems odd.

Re: Body Worlds.

If you read about how they preserve the bodies, its actually quite interesting. Heres a pdf about how they do it / if you wanted to donate your body to "body worlds."

Re: Body Worlds.

I thought it was weird at first too, but I'm looking forward to it. Sounds really awesome. Our mentor, Mr. Morrison, told us about when he saw the exhibit in Chicago some time ago. It sounds impressive.

Re: Body Worlds.

I saw Body Worlds 2 when it was on display at the Ontario Science Centre (the Toronto FIRST kick-off was actually held in the amphitheatre right beside the Body Worlds 2 exihibit!)

It was an AMAZING exhibit. I highly recommend it to everyone, and having seen it, I truly have a greater appreciation for the complexities of my very own body that I take for granted every single day.

I follow you on that one. I don't really get the point.

Re: Body Worlds.

Its a learning experience. Better than a textbook, you get to see the complexity of the human body. And not only human. I guess they have other stuff too, by the rider and horse on their site.

Re: Body Worlds.

I am from the area, and just a warning to anyone who is planning to go. If you are under 18, you need to have a permission form signed by your parents. Also, the exhibit is an additional charge ($24.75) in addition to admission to the museum ($13.75 or $18.75 if you want to see the IMAX movie). Also, once you leave the exhibit, you can not re-enter. If you are interested in Biology at all, the exhibit is worth the money to see (and they have some other cool stuff at the museum as well). The IMAX theater is rather unique too as they have a dome-shaped screen instead of the normal flat screen.
