Re: 2006 Waterloo Regional

Like many of the great people that I met this weekend, I could probably go on for pages about the wonderful job done by the regional committee at Waterloo. They planned and executed one of the best FRC events I have ever attended. For 931 and for myself, I want to thank the entire Waterloo event staff and volunteer corps for a great FIRST experience.

Karthik, you rock! As a team mentor, an event planner, a voice of wisdom, and as FIRST's most dynamic emcee, you made Waterloo 2006 an event to remember for a long time.

I believe in intuition and inspiration. Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited, whereas imagination embraces the entire world, stimulating progress, giving birth to evolution. It is, strictly speaking, a real factor in scientific research.

Re: 2006 Waterloo Regional

Congrats to 1114, 1503, 1281! Why do I have the feeling that there is no way to stop 1114 and 1503 at the GTA?

Great work by 188 getting to the finals and keeping it close.

I don't know how Karthik does it. And then recover his voice in time for GTA. I'm also amazed that he remembered our second place finish in Vex at the kickoff, as soon as I saw him.

A disappointing day for us. We had correctable things hamper us, like throwing batteries (more than once) and running at least 4 matches with only 3 drive CIMS running. That's the hazard with 2 CIM's in a tranny. You can't really tell which one isn't running unless you pull all the fuses and run them one at a time. (Sorry, maybe that belongs in a lessons learned thread.)

Anyway, plan to have those things all fixed for GTA and looking forward to it.

Re: 2006 Waterloo Regional

On behalf of the Planning Committee, I want to thank everyone who made this regional possible. The volunteers, the sponsors (shout out to our key sponsors, RIM, Toyota, Province of Ontario, and UW), the FIRST event staff, the UW support staff, the teams, and of course the mentors. When I say I reserve my highest thanks and utmost respect for the mentors, I truly mean it. (where's that bow-down-you-are-God smiley??)

And personally, I'd like to thank my Committee: Maud, Nenone, Naomi, Dana, Ian and Karthik. Awesome job.

Congrats of course to the regional champions, 1114/1503/1281, and to the finalists 188/610/771. I didn't think I would see such exciting final matches with the powerhouse Niagara teams there, but you three put up a good fight! And congratulations to all the other award winners, and to all the teams who competed; you all show your winning spirit just by being there!

I look forward to seeing you all back next year, for a bigger, better Waterloo Regional.

I've created another thread to specifically discuss what went well and what could be made better, from an organizational/planning/event point of view. Please contribute your thoughts and ideas!

For those of you going to GTR and CMP, see you there!

And thank you all again for a very successful event!
Rob.
