declining alliances

under the new selection system, would it be more advantangeous for teams who are not picked in the first round (but are still fairly decent) to decline the second round offers of the lower seeded teams?? this way, they can be picked by a higher ranked seed later in the second round... of course this is assuming that something was worked out with the pickee (seeded picker) to ensure that they will be selected. this will result in what happens in previous years, whereas the top seeded teams often destroyed (literally and metaphorically) the lower seeded teams in the QFs. does this actually happen? do you think it is going against the wishes of FIRST, and should not, or is not allowed to happen?? And do you think it really matters that much should onego to that extent to so called "rig the game"? what are your thoughts?

Re: declining alliances

because of this exact strategy...if you are picked and decline you cannot be picked again.

Re: declining alliances

Unless you are an alliance captain, if you decline an invitation you don't get to participate in the elimination rounds.

Read section 8.4.1 of the rules for details. Another example of why you need to read ALL the sections of the manual.

NO. If you decline a pick, you cannot be picked again. Therefore, if you wnat to be in the elimination rounds, and you aren't in the top 8, you will accept (unless you have to leave for some reason). If you are in the top 8, you can still pick. This is stated in the manual.

Re: declining alliances

If you are being picked in the second round (re, you are not a team in teh top 8) you must accept or you are out of the competiton..

Only those teams in the Top 8 can decline, and even then, they can't even be picked again, but they can make their own alliance.

I dont' understand your question. Go read the manual and it explains why what you are asking can not happen.

edit: w0w.. 4 people beat me to it in a matter of a minute.

This is not possible under this year's rules or previous year's rules. The only teams that can decline and go on to play in the finals are those in the top 8 (or those that move up due to higher ranked teams forming alliances.) If a ranked team declines, it may not accept an invitation from another team, it must pick it's own alliance.
The new rule this year about reversing the order of picking after the first round, corrects many of the faults with the previous system but requires greater strategy and data before selection. No team should go to alliance picking without at least 5 top choices, no matter where you finish. Be Prepared! (Boy Scout Motto)
