Posting during regionals
So it's just dawned on me. I can't figure out how people are posting to CD smack in the middle of regional competitions. I thought there were no internet connections available. Are there team members outside of the venue that are being communicated with? The people want to know!

Re: Posting during regionals
Some places there is, and others there aren't. The manual is written to say their won't be so that you don't get there expecting it.

Re: Posting during regionals
Some regionals do have Internet access it just isn't really advertised that way because they don't want every one flooding the venues net work. Most regionals hosted by colleges including Boston at the Agganis arena have wifi access because it is part of the school. Other venues have fan WiFi this is very common a Convention centers like the GWCC in Atlanta.
Many of the other posts come at night most of FIRSTs recommended hotels have free WiFi. |

Re: Posting during regionals
Yeah, some cell providers have dial-up capability, though it depends on the type of phone and plan you have. I have Sprint PCS, and a bluetooth capable phone. With a bluetooth USB dongle, I can establish an internet connection via my phone anywhere I have phone service. It's great at competitions if there's no free WiFi available.

Re: Posting during regionals
UC Davis had in some parts of the arena 54 Mbps wireless internet but most of the time it was 11 Mbps. Made it very easy for FIRST to update the match data online.

Re: Posting during regionals
Boston had some great WiFi connectability-reason number 3534534 why it was an awesome event. Being one of the people that posted during an event I find quite hard to make time to make time to post during the day, between the robot, people to talk to and the chaos that first is. At night I posted from the hotel or my house where it was much calmer, and I could hear myself think.
There have been several times in the past when I've found this tutorial helpful for getting internet through a mobile (it's slow but it works!). |

Re: Posting during regionals
There was excellent WiFi at SBPLI at Hofstra University. The signal was strong on the entire campus. I think Hofstra was voted one of the most connected campuses.
