Lightning Robotics Sumo Bot Competition '06

In the next month I will be running a part Sumo Bot, part Battle bot style mini robotics competition for my team.

When we started this last year we had 15 participants; students, parents, and mentors.

The intent is for the students to be able to have a fun way apply what they have learned from the FIRST Build Season in building their own tethered robots. Like FIRST they are given a Kit Of Parts (which they purchase), they also have design requirements such as size, & weight.

In the future the competition will feature different design challenges with in the arena.

We use Kits and Controllers from Kelvin

My purpose for posting this is twofold one to ask if any other teams run something like this.

and two to extend an open invitation to anyone in the area to participate.

We will be handing out kits next Wednesday (4/5) and will be holding the competition on Saturday May 13th.

If your interested in participating or have any questions, feel free to post them or PM me.

(If any mods feel this belongs someplace else feel free to move it)

It really is a blast. We'd love to have other teams involved. Last year my robot, named "The Executioner", had a rat trap on the front. Sure, it was one-shot but it was effective.

Re: Lightning Robotics Sumo Bot Competition '06

Our engineering classes have done this for the past few years, using the Kelvin controllers. It's actually a countywide tech challenge, along with the model airplane contest. It's a lot of fun, last year our bot had a spatula on the front that could be raised or lowered and we could actually pick some of the bots up!
