Best Defensive Plays

Okay so I read the Best Offensive Plays thread and I thought to myself why are we going to just give props to those that play good offense.

So this is to all of the defensive bots out thier. What are some of your favorite and most impressive defensive manuevers that a robot has done.

Mine so far this year has been team 4 in the quarter-finals at GTR.

The had thier auto-mode set to intercept 703 as 703 raced to climb the ramp and unload all of thier balls in the center goal. 4 got to the ramp before them and then climb it in the exact place the 703 would have. 703 climbed the ramp, hit 4 and roled back down the ramp unloading all of thier balls and not making one of them. (now for those that were watching and thought that to be impressive it really was very impressive considering before the match they said they didn't want to go near the ramp in automode.)

While at the same time 229 got to the lower goal faster than us and stopped us from dumping, we ran a auto where we started behind 703 and delayed our start to the lower goal. 4 and 229 knew where they needed to be to stop us and did a great job.

Re: Best Defensive Plays

My favorite this year has got to be 306 keeping MOE from scoring on the ramp in the second match of our semifinals.

Every robot on our alliance at UTC had their share of awesome defensive plays during the eliminations, however.]

Q93 at GTR.

45 blocks 1503 near the human player area. An extended pushing match ensues. 1503 doesn't make a single shot during all of operator control.

Re: Best Defensive Plays

My favorite defensive play was in quarter final match 3-3 at the Florida regional where team 86(Resistance), 710(Panther Robotics), and 1251 (Tech Tigers) won against 21 (Combat), 1345 (Platinum Dragons), and 1029(?).

In the previous two matches Combat at Platinum Dragons worked together to intercept a very dangerous team Resistance in autonomous mode. In this third match 710 made a great autonomous mode defensive play when they were able to stop BOTH Combat and Platinum Dragons so that team Resistance could score several three-pointers that match.

Re: Best Defensive Plays

One of my favorite plays, though I may be a bit biased, was during one of the qualifying matches in the New Jersey regional (week 1).

During autonomous one of the teams set up in the third slot, and set up an intercept with the far lower goal. The program consisted of a forward run, pause, backward, pause, and forward all the way to the goal.

During this auton routine, the team managed to confuse one robot's camera, causing them to spin around and dump their load off to the side of the field, and still managed to beat a second team to the far chute, stopping them from dumping their load into the lower goal.....it was just an amazing play to see.

Re: Best Defensive Plays

670 in the second quarterfinal match at SVR against 254. 1120 (the alliance captains) had broken down and elected to use their sub, which was 670. During 254's offensive period, 670 gets up on the ramp before them. The Cheesy Poofs then tipped after being pushed sideways on the ramp. This would result in 254's first loss (of two) at the regional.

Re: Best Defensive Plays

Finals match 2 of Palmetto.

11, 1251, 247, vs another alliance. They try to block MORT in autonomous mode, 247 counters by dead wreckoning and aiming at them, they hit dead on and flip them over blocking their ramp. MORT scores all 10, and 1251 dumps alot of 1 pointers, giving us a 40-0 start and a 3v2 match, and leaving them with a blocked ramp.

Re: Best Defensive Plays

that was us.

we knew that if we could get to you 11 that we could shut you down. it was shear genious to use a blocker bot in auto mode. i only wish we stayed up.

the two times the blocker bot hit us and other times we were hit bent our
extruded aluminum chasis. now during post season were going to have to rebuild and strengthen our chasis.

it was great match and i was glad we lost to a team like you guys
