Shooter motors?
What motors did you use on your shooter? I was surprised to see many teams using the minbike and normal CIMS up at the top of their robots. We used the FPs, with a BaneBots 1:5 gearbox to get the power we needed for a lot less weight. We avoided the minibike CIMS at all costs, since they weigh ~5 pounds apiece
(If I remember correctly). |

Re: Shooter motors?
We wanted to use our FP's for our pickup rollers, so we went with the smaller CIM's with good results.

Re: Shooter motors?
Who knows...the motors directly drove the Skyway wheels we used to launch the ball. Here are some pics:

Re: Shooter motors?
I believe they were $0.88 each...cheap, light, and simple! We always check Wal-Mart when looking for ideas for robot parts.

Re: Shooter motors?
We used both minibike motors on Chomp's shooter. Shot fine for us (and we shot relatively low, which kept us from tipping most of the time).

Re: Shooter motors?
The 2 minibike CIMS combined with a closed velocity loop on the wheel keeps the cycle time very low, and the CG very high.

Re: Shooter motors?
One FP motor with a custom gearbox and a chain. Works rather well, and it weighs practically nothing. We originally used the minibike motor to drive our conveyor belt, but the thing weighs more than 5 pounds, so we geared down a FP for that too. Even with the gearbox it weighs several pounds less, and works just as well.

Re: Shooter motors?
we used 2 small CIM's, mainly because it lets us shoot a continuous stream of balls without the wheel slowing down enough to matter between shots.

Re: Shooter motors?
We used one bike CIM because... well, to be honest I had next to nothing to do with our launcher, I spent my time on the drivetrain and such. Part of the reason is because I used 4 CIMs in the drive, and still almost nobody believes me when I tell them how strong the FP is. (And they're worried it'll burn out)

Re: Shooter motors?
we used a small cim direct coulpled to and probably 5 pound shooter wheel so we it go up to speed it wouldn't noticably slow down and we have a high rate of fire
