the game sounds cool and all...just imagine, if it was popular enough, you could have the whole 'storyline' from the year before, like u find out the game and stuff, and then u can build your own bot (madden: building your own team) or select from a preexisting team. In the FIRST game's case, the bots from the year before would be all loaded onto the game so you could be the driver for teams such as 25, 11, 254, the triplets, or take a rookie team to the top!!!

Sadly, some of us can only afford to build robots six weeks out of the year.

Stereotypes are bad. I used to play amateur league competitive Halo (http://www.caleague.com) and I go to the gym 5 days out of the week.

Re: What if there was a FIRST Video Game

Im thinking along the same lines as Gdeaver. For the price of a gaming PC, or a good game console system you could get quite a bit of stuff from Vex

or buy a digital oscilloscope, Microchip proto boards, build an autonomous RC car or aircraft

somehow the idea of a FIRST video game just doenst feel right.

Re: What if there was a FIRST Video Game

that sounds really cool, a FIRST video game. It would not only be fun to play (especially if, like someone mentioned, it was rpg) but it would also help drivers in developing their skills without having to use the robot itself the whole time.

I think it can be done.....The company that does the graphics and puts together the Madden Series, is in Matland, it's about a 30 min drive from Orlando.

It would take a while to create.....but it's a good idea

I'll think about stopping by over there and giving them a presentation befor championship.....maybe get a sponcership
Actually team 1902 is having a tour and chat with some of the professionals there next week. I will alert them to all this and maybe they could come up with something cool. My husband works there.

Maybe even approach the company directly.

I played Robot Arena 2 for a very long time and participated in their official forums, there was a mod for a level that involved picking up balls and putting them into a goal. All we would need is people to create levels. Also this game only allows 4 players, I guess mods could be made but honestly this has been brought up before. Getting the people to do this would be difficult but honestly if we could pull it off, wow… Also Robot Arena 2 has a easily modded part system, where we can put in the standard kit of parts and leave instructions on how to make custom parts. Just my $.02

The most simple thing of just pushing balls into a goal and getting a robot in a place at the end is probly a good start. Aslo a button to push that sends a ball into the field (human player)

Game concept: Run around collecting robot parts

Mini games: drill hole in robot to make weight
eat pizza
guess screw threadings
fix programming errors
dodge flying shrapnel
play dodgeball

hidden difficulty: if you don't beat the game in six weeks, it EXPLODES

Re: What if there was a FIRST Video Game

I honestly think that would be an awsome thing...if there was a FIRST video game it would give everyone the opprotunity to experience something new...basicly ignite everyones interest in FIRST, by giving them a virtual hands on experience to interact with robots via video games...im all for a FIRST Video Game.

Re: What if there was a FIRST Video Game

I think a game that showed how fun FIRST can be would be amazing. It's almost impossible to describe the competition to people without seeing the energy that is there. A FIRST game would have uses for recruiting and it would be wicked fun!!! It would be pretty hard to produce a game that changed it's main game play every year. But so is building a robot in six weeks

OK, there's been some talk of this in another sector of the forum, but a member of my team made a really great game of this year's competition. Here's the link, it's really great:

Re: What if there was a FIRST Video Game

I think a First video game would be a great idea. One goal of First is to become a national sport isn't it? The more the name of first gets out to the country and to the world the easier this will be to accomplish. I think the game would be big and then die as all the die hard fans began joining First and giving up the virtual First. Video games are great but they will never be able to capture the true experience of First.
