Crab/Swerve/Synchro Pics

Does anyone have any really good pictures of a crab drive. I really want to make a good one, but I'm not sure which is the best way. So far this year I think Hammonds crab drive is the best, and I would really like to see some pictures of that. Also, if you have any pictures of successful crab drive I would really like to see them. Thanks in advance.

Re: Crab/Swerve/Synchro Pics

We did one in 05, and it turned out great.

So have fun, and remember: a crab drive will be more expensive, and heavier than other drive trains. (also more complex).

Re: Crab/Swerve/Synchro Pics

I wrote a white paper in 2004 describing 1114's SimSwerve crab drive; the thread is at http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/sh...ight=simswerve . If you scroll down to post #6, there are some links to some pictures (there are also lots in the white paper itself). Note that the CAD links are no longer active; if you'd really like the models, send me a private message and I can try to dig them up.

And if you're coming to Championship, I'm giving a presentation at the FIRST Conference on Omnidirectional Drive Systems late Friday morning .

Re: Crab/Swerve/Synchro Pics

Thanks, do you know what gears you used for that, and what the final ratio was? Also, how much space did you have between the center of the wheel and the center of the cim?

Re: Crab/Swerve/Synchro Pics

If you're really really interested in our design, I can get you the Inventor files, but you'd have to email me to have that happen. (or on AIM as Blitzkr3ig3r, i'm usually invisible, but try and talk to me anyway)

We liked our crab drive system, it proved quite fun and useful. However, the game needs to be suited for it. Triple play was a good year, but it ended up limiting our weight and size for our grabber, so we had to make trade offs.

But anywhoo, good luck on going for a crab drive! Personally, my current project is designing a 2 speed swerve drive in Inventor, but I'll post more about it later.

You should look around on WildStang's Photo Gallery , since they did Crab Drive in 2002, 2003, and a Half-Crab in 2004.

They also did a crab-drive in 1999.
