It's probably been that way for at least 40 years....
Seems to me that you have to live life for a while, try out some different careers, to get a feel for what you really want. The problem is that it's so much easier to learn while you're young, but you probably won't know for sure what you want to learn until you're older. Obvoiusly I don't have a solution for the problem !
