Do you enjoy school?

Simple question, but I don't think I've ever seen it polled before. I'm very interested in finding out the results. If you'd like to elaborate on your vote, please do.

Re: Do you enjoy school?

Well, I said yes, but let me elaborate on that.

Learning - yes (why else would I be in FIRST?).

Staying up until 1:00 doing a repetitive project on things I've already mastered - no.

School can be fun and useful, but only if the teacher is able to understand the needs of the student. Otherwise, it is a waste of time.

Re: Do you enjoy school?

Where's the 50-50 option? I really like some subjects (mostly in the math and science area), but I...umm...shall we say...strongly dislike others (mostly in what colleges often term "humanities," like languages and arts).

Re: Do you enjoy school?

What's with the false dichotomies in so many polls around here? Haven't we figured out that simple questions don't necessarily merit simple answers?

My brief—but far from simple—answer is "sometimes".

As for the long answer...well, I have discovered a truly marvelous demonstration of this proposition that this margin is too narrow to contain. Maybe later.

Re: Do you enjoy school?

Yeah, I enjoy school for the most part. I love learning new things, particularly in science and math, my two favorite subjects.

My only problem with school is that I generally learn at a fast pace. And I get bored a lot in school, because even the Honors and AP classes move at a moderate pace. And regular (non-honors/AP) classes? It's like watching paint dry.

Re: Do you enjoy school?

I love school primarily because of robotics. Like most everyone at FIRST, its also science and math as my favorite things. For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology, that's what it's all about! My other favorite subject is U.S. history, and it's fun. I gotta say, I would rather read the Machinery's Handbook than Catcher in the Rye.

Without a doubt I love school. It is my sanction away from my crazy demented family. Plus robotics is just about the only thing I do at school.

Re: Do you enjoy school?

I enjoy -most- of school (or, to be more accurate, college). There are some courses that drive me insane (do they really need a three-hour course just to teach us the MS Office that we already learned in high school?), but overall, it's pretty good.

The thing is that everyone doesn't take those classes, and I've seen some really horrible things from people that don't take them. EX: On our team, when typing our WFA, We had a Senior, Junior, and a Freshman type it (it never was submitted...long story) and to Double Space, they pressed enter twice, and lets just say the actual stuff they typed wouldn't be considered "FIRST material", and when we noticed that they did it that way, we just decided to not submit it because of a lack of time and people available (we gave them a week to type it).

I don't really have a problem with school as long as it doesn't get in the way of learning...

Re: Do you enjoy school?

I love learning... whether it's an academic subject or it's a conversation at school. School for me is a place where I can meet people and talk about things... I don't really see it as an actual "school." I have good relations with my teachers and because I'm enthusiastic, learning seems so much better.

Now there are parts of school I don't like... like the unnecessary and unwarranted competition that tends to happen or the endless homework that sometimes seems purposeless. But if anything, I learn tolerance, adaptability, flexibility and a good attitude.

Example: I hate writing long essays. Actually, I just have a problem starting essays. But because I have written so many essays in high school, I don't complain any more and I "just do it." I can also type faster and sound slightly more intelligent on forums like these.

To me, school is what I make of it.

Re: Do you enjoy school?

I like school as an opportunity to learned, yet it doesn't work out this way. I do not wish to learn a language I do not care about, also my wishes for learning are thwarted by the plain stupidity, immaturity, and lack of self control of the other students. Yet there would be things I would like to cut out of the curriculum, like The Odyssey, Romeo & Juliet, Great Expectations. Honestly I like school as a place to learn and meet up with my friends yet I hate our student body, teachers (75%) & curriculum.

From all of my school computer classes I have learned very little, my typing speed / accuracy hasn't increased, one thing that has increased these was a video game, Typing of the Dead... do a Google search on this game and dl a free demo.
