Re: 2006 Best Robot Match Ever?

i must say that the GTR semi finals match 1-1 is my favorite.
probably the fastest i've ever lost my voice cheering/yelling. : ]

most exciting for me would have to be the first SoCal finals match with us (team 4)/RAWC/1138 against BeachBots/599/995, rawc fell over and the score wasnt announced til a good 15 minutes later, it felt like 5 hours because we were all so anxious.

That's a conservative estimate. If I recall correctly, they went through Cotton-Eye Joe, the Hokey Pokey, the Cha-Cha Slide, and at least one or two others before they announced the score.

Re: 2006 Best Robot Match Ever?

For me,
the most exciting match for 1511 was our last match in Boston.
It was the deciding match for us in the finals.

We were up against the only other NY state team at the Boston Regional. Team 578 ... and both sides went all out to win.

At the buzzer the score was tied, and somehow 578 managed to get up onto the platform..... they had three on the platform, and we had two....
so we were eliminated.... but it was the best match ever!

our last match...
http://www.soap.circuitrunners.com/2...n/ma_qf3m3.wmv

The next match 578 was in we went over to their section in the stands and started cheering with them.... it was a LOT of fun...

Cool Re: 2006 Best Robot Match Ever?

I'm going to have to go with SF1-1, SF1-2 and SF1-3 at UTC
The dream team of 126 and 20 with 571 against the lower ranked 177, 176 and 1124 all UTC alliance. The matches are non stop action from start to finish.
here the video
http://www.aceshigh176.com/UTC2006/

Oh and if we can pick from years gone by I'd have to say the most exciting matches of all time would have to be on Newton in 2004. Team 176 drove their way to the top even as the under dogs with every match going to 3 games.
Wish I had more video but here are two rounds from the semi-finals. And yeah that's me driving the base as a Freshmen.

Smile Re: 2006 Best Robot Match Ever?

Best of this year, for us? That would probably have to be the second match of the finals. (1629/175/1184 vs. 181/888/1218) We had waited through two 6 minute time outs, and all the robots were finally working. The reason the match was so great was because of our three teams getting up on the ramp. 888 had fallen over in front of the ramp, one of the teams on our alliance (1629 I think) got up one side, then the other team (1184 I think, although it may have been the other way around) the drove over on the ramp so we could get up that side too. It was great, because it was 1st seed vs. 2nd seed and 2nd seed had won the first of the two matches, so this tied everything up. Everyone was so nervous and all the time had made the anticipation worse.

Best ever? There was one match in 2004, forgive me I don't know which one, where WPI (190) had hung there robot and they were trying to execute the maneuver where they switched the x2 ball from the opposing goal to there goal. It was the end of the match and we (175) grabbed the ball and held it on. Any one who didn't get to see WPI hang in auton in 2004 should see it.

I don't have videos (if anyone knows where there are videos of Chesapeake finals, let me know!)

Re: 2006 Best Robot Match Ever?

Anyone who went to Pittsburgh remember Q5, the match they changed the score to later? I doubt anyone will, except the 4 teams who played...it was a 2-on-2, us (1629) and 1727 vs. 1370 and 365. The other two teams were having mechanical problems, and unfortunately their robots didn't make it to the field. Us and 1727 were honestly terrified before that match; both the other teams were good shooters AND solid pushers, and neither of us could really push well. We came up with a strategy, and played it out...we played "sneaky" defense, blocking and nudging instead of pushing...and when ramp time came, we held MOE back together until we thought they didn't have time to make it to the ramp, then got on our own together. We looked at the RTS score, added the 10 ramp points, and knew we'd won...but the final score didn't add our ramp points, and said we'd lost. We sent our drivers to talk to the referees, and they reviewed it and corrected the score a few matches later.

That match is special in my mind because we had to fight SO HARD to win, and because we couldn't give up when we knew the score was wrong. We thought we had no shot against those two teams.

The other best one I can remember also came at Pittsburgh. The 3rd match of our semi finals, we thought we'd lost and it was all over. BUT, the scoring system had been off...IT WAS A TIE. To be honest, that was nearly as good a feeling as winning at Chesapeake. (Almost)

Re: 2006 Best Robot Match Ever?

Yes I think there were to matches from the Palmetto Regional down in South Carolina.

First would have to be QF 4-2 and Da' Bears just are defending with 1251 and as soon as they come on offense, they shoot across the whole field like they hit the nitrous button and scoring in the top goal.

Then SF 2-2 where scoring was great and 12651 and 247 just rock 343 with a tag team assault.

Re: 2006 Best Robot Match Ever?

These matches have been brought up in this thread already, but I thought giving the perspective of someone down on the floor during the matches would be interesting.

1816, 111, and 1625 vs. 70, 494, and 1781 in the Finals at Wisconsin. The first game was incredibly exciting. The scoring system must have malfunctioned a little bit because for the whole match we thought we were down. Every time I looked up at the scoreboard I couldn't believe that we were losing, because the match looked pretty even. The moment when the final score showed up and 1816, 1625 and 111 had won was one of the highlights of the WI regional (for me at least ). The second finals match was great, too, but how could it not be with such great shooters on both sides? Moments to remember in our rookie season.

This is an off-season competition with rookie drivers. Needless to say after a few matches, things break, so there were times we decided not to hang in autonomous (although that was a very awesome match).

Of course we have plenty of video footage of when we would hang in autonomous, make it all the way to the top of the bar, and "lock on." Very cool stuff!

Re: 2006 Best Robot Match Ever?

My most memorable match of 2006 was when 45 played 1503 in Qual Match 93. They got 3 in, in automode, and got stuck in the corner the rest of the match. It was however the most, stressful?, match for me, due to going back and fourth and trying to read where they would go next. In the end, with lots of luck, we were able to keep them contained in the corner.

There was one match at GLR where we (226) were two robots against three and then our alliance partner fell over. Our alliance of one robot against three was an awesome match and we won! If anyone remembers which match (it might be Q59 or Q79), I might be able to find a video of it. Thanks.

It was our favorite too! (even though we lost ). If you watch the clock 254 was stopped just in the nick of time twice. Once by the 956 screen and 1839's last minute hit in 254's offensive period, and by us 488 nudging them out of the way when they were lined up for the last period). That with the 4 robots being disabled and the last minute turn of the match was pretty intense.
