EasyC 2.0 Upgrade for NON-FIRST Teams?

Can we get the upgrade free if we are a non vex FIRST team?

How come when I go to Radio Shack today, that I get the old version 1.0 EasyC software, then I have to turn around and purchase a 2.0 upgrade?

Seems like if you buy something "new" at the store, like software that it would be shipping with the lastest 2.0 version?

Something just doesn't seem right about that.

If that is what we have to do, I guess we will buy the programming kit at Radio Shack "old software" then spend another $50.00 online to upgrade it to 2.0 if that's the procedure. Just let us know what to do.

We are a non-VEX team, but like to use the VEX to teach programming lessons for the bigger FRC robot. We have supported Intelitek in the past by purchasing two additional FRC software seats for our team.

Thanks

I absolutely feel your pain, just on a more personal level. I just went through this exercise myself, although, it was for my own kit. The only thing I can say that made it a little less painful is that I got the Programming Kit for $49.99 while it was available.
I will say, version 2.0 is well worth the extra $50.

On a separate note, I don't think you will be able to re-create the programming module. There is some proprietary work being performed in the PIC. You may be able to reverse engineer the process, but the time and effort spent will, by far, out weigh the cost of buying one.

Re: EasyC 2.0 Upgrade for NON-FIRST Teams?

I went ahead and bought "another" programming kit so we got another programming cable. I think we will just bite the bullet and pay the $50.00, all though it seems odd to have to do that.

Easy C sure has speed up our development time in software. It has also provided rapid proto-typing. Not to mention the ability to have four students programming on four different things, then being able to import all four programs into a single program in two shakes of a cat's tail, variables and all!!!...so I give the software an 11 on a 10 scale for efficiency improvements in our software team for 2006.

Re: EasyC 2.0 Upgrade for NON-FIRST Teams?

Version 2.0 of EasyC for Vex is an Addon to Version 1.x. Version 1.x does everything version 2 does just version 2.0 has more toys. Version 1.x
is not an old version just not as advanced. Kinda like Windows XP Home vs Pro.

Side note: We just released an upgrade for version 2.0 that helps address
a few issues people having been asking for.

Re: EasyC 2.0 Upgrade for NON-FIRST Teams?

We have v1 and haven't figured out how to prevent a program from starting as soon as you turn on the controller. The problem is that the previously loaded program keeps the robot in motion while we're waiting for the new one to load. Also, there are times when we want to download but don't want the robot to start right away (so we can unhook cables, etc.). Is there an indefinite "pause" button anywhere?

Also, we're not in the market for v2 yet, but I haven't seen it for sale anywhere. Is there any way to get it other than registering an FVC team?

press the button on the program module, it acts like a disable button
