yeah the juniors going to nationals (myself included) are missing prom - nationals is going to be awesome though!!!! 3 hours of dancing can certainly not compare to three days of the best event of the year on a national scale!!!

heh yep we were partnered with them for one round, and I can still remember how weird it was to look on the other side of our booth and see a kid in a suit tossing purple balls...

they were really cool- told us all about how they were missing prom, it sure was a great way to stand out..

Awww, Liz!! Mount's Jr. Prom is the same weekend as National's again!? Oh well, you are making the right decision (been there, done that) because you will have the time of your life at Nat's. There is always senior prom (which is all you really need).

We never actually did this, although we had the idea to, but you should totally bring a formal dress to Nat's and have some lucky robotics guys be your date to the team social . It's the best of both worlds....pretty dresses + robots!!

My prom next year is the first weekend of June so I don't have to worry about Nationals getting in the way

Re: missing prom for nationals (was: *?*!*)

Think about it this way:
If you went to prom you could possibly have a good time some friends, or you could end having a terrible time depending on how well organized the event is. If you go to nationals, however, you will most certainly have a good time with thousands of friends from all over the world, while participating in something you love!

I, and three others from my team last year, missed our senior prom for the Brazil International Event (which I suppose is somewhat different). It was sad to have to miss the prom as you only get to do it (at least as a senior in your own school) once, but it was certainly well worth it for such an amazing experience, and nationals are the same way. While it may be hard for "outsiders" to understand your decision, you'll know that you made the right choice when you're standing there in Atlanta watching 6 amazing robots go at it for the big win.

Re: missing prom for nationals (was: *?*!*)

Last year I made a bad decision by choosing to go to prom instead of going to Nationals. My prom was terrible, and I didn't even know my date. Now I'm in college and don't have the chance to go to Nationals (they're the weekend before finals for me. If I could go back and change one thing about my senior year, it would be going to Nationals.

Re: missing prom for nationals (was: *?*!*)

I couldn't have... if they were conflicting. By the time we were sure we were going to nationals, I had already poured quite a bit of money into a limo, a tux, and dinner... not to mention flowers and everything else that goes with prom. So I am rather lucky that my prom is on May 5th, or I would have to miss nationals.
Another determining factor in my would-be-choice-to-miss-prom is the fact that It would take a lot more than three days in Atlanta to make me miss miss a chance to dance with the most beautiful woman in the World! (something like a pack of wild horses)

I went to the 1/4 mile drag strip instead of going to my prom.

Something about that 110 octane fillin' up your lungs at the HighSchool Nationals in the morning' just feels right

Re: missing prom for nationals (was: *?*!*)

ok, lets do an engineering tradeoff study on this:

1. What can you do at the prom that you cannot do at the Championship? (I would say nothing) !

2. What can you do at the Championship that you cannot do at your prom? (many things).

Conclusion?

Re: missing prom for nationals (was: *?*!*)

This year, after we won UTC, our juniors had to make the decision of Prom vs. Nationals. It wasn't a very hard decision for me, but lots of kids were on the fence.

Unfortunately, I was the only one who chose nationals

Besides, the person I would have taken as my date is already gunna be at Nats, as well as like tons of other people I would rather spend three days with than one night at prom.

Well anyways, hopefully at some point I'm going to walk around in my dress, granted I finish making it!. It's blue, you cant miss it!

Re: missing prom for nationals (was: *?*!*)

There is a great photo somewhere in the FIRST archives of two girls driving in prom dresses, with signs on their backs "we are missing our prom to be here."Almost positive it was not last year, but before.
This is going to drive me crazy now, trying to find it.
