Re: missing prom for nationals (was: *?*!*)

Yea idk I think I'd find myself a prom date at championships and ask them to the team social if I were you.

...of course being a "yay I love high-school and being involved" nerd I'm pretty happy my prom's in a few weeks...

BUT if I had to make a decision...HELLO ATLANTA HERE I COME. I think I'm DEFINITELY a bigger ROBOTICS NERD. Who needs fancy uncomfortable dresses and hair when you can have ROBOTS and the BEST time of your life?! HUH??

Re: missing prom for nationals (was: *?*!*)

I missed my Senior Prom for Atlanta last year. However, on Saturday night I was with my friends on SPAM and we had a dance-off in the halls at one point making a "remote Astronaut High prom." Between the competition and little things like stuff like that, you realize that being around good friends and just having some fun is the same whether your at a high school's prom or having a mock prom. I know in my case it ended up being that by being at Nationals with great friends is probably a better memory than I could've possibly gotten by going to prom with a bunch of people I just went to school with. Have fun with it and you'll never regret it.

Re: missing prom for nationals (was: *?*!*)

I would miss Nationals to go to my prom.
I have been to three Nationals, all three were good.
But nothing, even if it sucks, it is the memories that are there, that you wouldn't have by missing it.
Everyone that I have talked to that didn't go to their prom, say that they regret it.
I think I would regret it also.
I am just glad that I don't have to make that decision because our prom is at the end of may.
But if I did, I would be going to prom.

Re: missing prom for nationals (was: *?*!*)

I would also miss Nationals for prom. Prom is a REALLY big deal at RMHS and is the Friday before Graduation. I have been a chair on the prom committee and know how amazing it has been and will be. It is the last time the senior class will all be hanging out together and is where we all say good bye and good luck before we embark on our futures. I am very glad that the RMHS has its prom so late becuase I would never want to make that decision. I guess I would have to go to prom/post-prom cruise and then book it to an airport to get to Nationals.

Question for you two: if you had been in my situation (going to the Brazilian FIRST exposition instead of prom) would you still feel the same way? Is prom that important as to make you miss any form of robotics trip, or is it just the national event? Is it that you've already been to nationals in the past that you'd be willing to give it up?

That was 2004 and they had the best time. A great part of that was for all of the rest of us. We would smile and cheer watching them kick butt in prom dresses.

Brazil is different, that is international so I would go unless it is something that is open to me every year then I wouldn't miss prom. But if it was anywhere in the country I wouldn't miss prom. It is something I cannot repeat, I can always go to Nationals, even if I am not on a team I can show up to the Dome.

I suppose that's true so long as you can make it fit with your school schedule (which unfortunately I can't this year ). I have no regrets for missing prom for the Brazil event, but I don't really know how I'd feel if it was nationals. I think I really wouldn't mind missing the prom that much as nationals mean a lot more to me personally, but I can't be certain.

I was on the prom committee and I have a lot of friends that aren't in robots so I guess that is why prom means so much to me.
