I agree. Particularly 1114 who has changed the landscape of FIRST, for better or for worse, this season more than any team has in one season that I can recall.

M.O.E is the most likely canidate because they knocked off 341 at whatever regional they won at.
We did not submit at the same regional as Team 341. We won at the Pittsburgh Regional this year, against (among other excellent candidates) 2Train Robotics, Team 395 from the Bronx.

Royal Assault, Team 357, from Upper Darby, PA. won their Chairman's Award at the Philadelphia Regional, where Miss Daisy (341) also submitted.

Re: So who do you think is the favorite to win this years Chairman's award?

My top 5 CA nominees

1.) 1114
2.) 45
3.) 111
4.) 217
5.) 383

1114 - These guys are one of the largest driving forces behind the spread of FIRST in Canada. They have a great foundation to start and spread FIRST throughout thier area of Canada. They also create and spread inspiration throughout thier high school students and even other members of FIRST.

45 - An old war horse come back. Technokats have seen the Chairmans award before. This team knows what it takes to get the chairmans and they have done it all.

111 - Not only does this team produce high quality robots each year they continuely produce inspired students and spread the word of FIRST.

217 - This team seems to be an underdog for me. I'm not 100% sure what all they do but I know that with leaders as involved as they have not only can they inspire thier students on the team, but they inspire everyone. This is a team that you can work with in one match or just even meet at a competition and have them affect you

383 - The Machine. Just as Simbots are a driving force in Canada this team is the driving force in Brazil. So far they have seen and participated in Dean's homework of spreading the message of FIRST. These guys are my in the dark pick.

Don't want to turn this in to a big issue but you don't really "knock-off" a true Chairman's Team. (any Chairman's team)

At Philly, while the adults on our team were busy feeling sad about not getting selected this year, a few of our students came to us and said they wanted to help Team 357 get ready for their Championship interview. Not because they need our help, but because we respect them and they are our friends. I was filled with joy because it meant we were still a Chairmans Team at our core.

Every year that we won Chairmans I felt sadness for the great teams that did not get selected that year. Our overwhelming joy was always mixed with a sense of honor and respect for the other candidates.

It is a competition, but it is a contest against yourself to do better each year. Not an opportunity to defeat someone else.

Congratulations to all of this years Chairmans Teams, We honor and respect you all!!

I want to provide some context to the Philly Chairman's Award Winners.
In 5 years of Regional Chairman's Awards, 3 teams have won it at Philly: 341, 357, & 365.
Some of the awards these teams have won are:

Team 341: 3 RCA, 2 CAHM & 1 EI
2006 MD Engineering Inspiration Award
2005 CMP Chairman's Award Honorable Mention
2005 MD Regional Chairman's Award
2004 CMP Chairman's Award Honorable Mention
2004 PA Regional Chairman's Award
2003 PA Regional Chairman's Award

Team 357: 2 RCA, & 3 EI
2006 PA Regional Chairman's Award
2006 FL Engineering Inspiration Award
2005 PA Engineering Inspiration Award
2004 PA Engineering Inspiration Award
2003 MD Regional Chairman's Award

Team 365: 3 RCA, & 1 CAHM
2006 PIT Regional Chairman's Award
2005 CMP Chairman's Award Honorable Mention
2005 PA Regional Chairman's Award
2002 PA Regional Chairman's Award

These 3 teams (and many others) make it very difficult for the Philly Judges to select just one. These are 3 multiple RCA winning teams that compete with each other both regionally and nationally. Each team has "knocked-off" the others at some point in the course of 5 years. However, the Chairman's Award is not about besting other teams. It is about bettering your team and the community.

Now, back to the original point of this thread, speculating about this year's Chairman's. I hope 383 (still pending) goes to Atlanta. I think they have a good shot at CA since FIRST is becoming more international.

A couple interesting facts:
The only multiple Regional CA winner to win the CA is 254 (2 RCA).
175, 103, & 67 only won 1 RCA

The youngest HOF member is 254 (rookie year 1999)
A few HOF teams have rookie year 1997, but no one with 1998

151 (1995) and 191 (1992) both won the CA in their rookie year (there may be others I just can't find the data)

M.O.E is the most likely canidate because they knocked off 341 at whatever regional they won at. I have a theory that Wildstang might have the same year as H.O.T. They won two regionals and a Chairmans this year. 217 and 503 are my sentimental picks because they are two of my favorite Michigan teams, and have excellent programs. The Flyers are my darkhorse team. They have influenced many Michigan teams and have a number less that 254 which makes them a possibility.
And Dan Green is one of the most influencial mentors that I know of. Mr. FIRST deserves the WFA.

Re: So who do you think is the favorite to win this years Chairman's award?

Michigan pride makes me say "Chickens" - they rock.

But everything else in me says "Kats"

When I am telling someone about FIRST, I always say: "California and Michigan have an amazing number of teams... technology and automotive industry are behind that. Oh, and Indiana, for some reason, has the most amazing teams."

My dark horse is 71, because, dude - they are ALSO from Indiana.

Indiana - building a robot army to take over the country.

To be fair, when 175 won the CA, the RCA had only been in existence that one year.

I know that 612 has not won the Regional CA before, but they are a really impressive team. Get a look at them if you get the chance.

I would also put 365, 236, 383, and 1114 on my list of people with a really strong chance. I don't really know some of the other teams, but all of the one's I have mentioned are amazing teams.

Re: So who do you think is the favorite to win this years Chairman's award?

Lots of great teams. Here are a few of my favorites though:

25 - Probably one of the most influential teams in the northeast. They've helped spread the message of FIRST and started REALLY quality teams since their inception. Great mentors and great students. They really embody the spirit of FIRST. Not to mention they host a terrific off-season event.

365 - It's MOE! They're loud and they're proud! I love MOE and the energy they always bring to the competitions. They're really active with FLL and they also host the wonderful Duel on the Delaware event. Again, this team is really a role model FIRST team.

1114 - Would FIRST in Canada really be where it is today without this team? I love their innovative approaches to setting up truly quality FIRST programs in Canada. The hardwork they put into spreading FIRST is so readily apparent.

383 - I've been down to Brazil and I've seen how awesome this team is. FIRST is so big in their in school! They have their own 'robot house'!!! Anyway, they were key in expanding FIRST support down in Brazil. Every year they overcome countless obstacles that most US teams will never have to face. And what's even more amazing, they do it with a smile! Amazing team!

Other favorites: 71, 111 - Old-time favorite teams of mine. When I think FIRST, these teams always come to mind. And for good reason!

Just my 2cents. Good luck to all the teams!!

I am on one of the competing teams, so I will not play any favorites whatsoever, etc. etc.

However, I would like to say one thing to all competing RCA winning teams:
Good luck, and do your best. We'll see you there!

Re: So who do you think is the favorite to win this years Chairman's award?

357 has a very impressive resume this year, with strong historical support. They won the RCA in Philly, against 341, and the EI in UCF, against 79 and others.

365 is a multiple RCA team, with a very long and impressive history. They run an off-season FRC competition, and an actual FVC regional event.

612 has one of the truly unique stories to spread, about their "baby walker" project, as well as a very strong bond with the Smithsonian.

1002 will be the first 4 digit team to win the Championship CA, and has one of the best programs in FIRST. I'm not sure if this is the year though (keep on trying guys!)

45, 71, and 111 all have impressive resumes as well.

My "favorites" this year would have to be 357 or 365. 1002 will win in the next couple of years, and if 612 keeps doing what they are doing, they will certainly have one in the next few years as well.
1114 may win one eventually, but I don't see it coming very soon. NiagaraFIRST is definately impressive, but compared to a few other programs, it still has some work left to do.
