Re: 2006 Best Robot Match Ever?

Match 50 of the peachtree regional
My team (1261) was blocked on the opposing teams ramps with about 5 seconds left in the match
using our swerve drive we juked the other team, launched off their ramp, went around a robot or two as well as several balls (all of this at about 15-18 ft/s) and launched up our ramp ramming the wall at about 12 ft/s (i'm really surprised the glass didn't break) just as the clock hit zero.
although this was a low scoring match (25-21), we won because we were able to get up on our ramp
here are a few quotes from that match:

That 1261 end-to-end dash was the most impressive move I saw this
weekend.
With mere seconds remaining, 1261 was being pinned on top of the
opposing
alliance's ramp, got away and made an unbelievable mad dash across the
field, somehow not tipping over on the way up his ramp. Anyone remember
what
match number that was? 1002 Circuit Runners

That match was probably one of the most amazing displays of agile
mobility
I have seen in a FIRST competition. We were all convinced that 1261 had
been
hiding their talents up to that point, and finally decided to really
show
their capabilities. And when they did, was it ever impressive! Dave
Lavery

1261, what an impressive swerve drive, going from one ramp to the other
in a
few seconds while dodging a few robots and balls in your way....it was
just
impressive. Team 1369

Sorry, they didn't tape that match and no one, not even NASA TV or any of the FIRST people can get a tape

Best Match This year = Finals Match 2 at Nationals. Period. You all saw it, you all know it.

Re: 2006 Best Robot Match Ever?

Einstein Finals Match 2, followed by Newton Finals match 2

If the Einstein finals match had last even a fraction of a second longer, 195 would have made it onto the ramp, and it would have been 99-98 in favor of the Newton alliance. 217 nailing all 10 autonomous shots (yet again) was the key, but the Raider RAWCs gave one of the most exciting comebacks I have ever seen. When 217 got into position on the ramp in the 3rd/4th period I thought it would be over, but the last second heroics on 25 dashing to score 3 or 4 more balls, and 968 managing to empty the rest of it's hopper kept it very close.

Didn't see the Einstein matches, but the best match I saw this weekend, was QF1-2 on Curie with 70/1114/48 and 1305/180/358, that was a nail biter to the last second. In the last part of the match, SPAM (180) lost one of their treads on their drivetrain, yet still managed to win the match .. very impressive.

If you wanna see some the best played matches of all year, watch all of the Newton Semifinals...in my mind, they all should've been on Einstein.

Re: 2006 Best Robot Match Ever?

Anyone looking for amazing matches to watch after you watch the Einstein finals and watch the Newton finals then watch every match 322 played. I need to give them props. (I know they were in Newton Finals yet once you see them there you must see their other matches)

I really liked the Second Einstien Semi-finals match with Newton vs Galileo.

That was awesome.

Re: 2006 Best Robot Match Ever?

I've gotta continue the motion for all of the Newton Final Matches those were some nail biters. But my personal favorites were the Einstein finals matches, the strategy was incredible, those were the matches that were impossible to predict. I always appreciate some good strategy.

Also, I gotta admit that the match at the PNWR with 488 and 254 battling it out to the last 15 seconds was amazing. I am glad that those have already been mentioned. The drivers I am sure had a fun time with that one, that was a battle of the drivers. Props have to go to team 488,956 and 1839 for getting back fast enough to block 254, and also for making your job easier getting 753 out of the way, they are one tough cookie. I hope everybody in that match had fun with that one.

And one last match, I promise, the finals at the PNWR with 254, 753, and 114 which looking at their history were meant to be in the finals, but I mean 360 came out of nowhere, they played a remarkable game beating 254's alliance once with some pretty good defense. I look forward to seeing 360 next year at the PNWR, good luck you guys.

For team 180, the best robot matches that we played in were against 1114. We had the (mis)fortune to play against them four times on Saturday (one qualifying, three elimination). Those were an amazing set of matches. We won one, lost three and the three losses were all due to 1114 finally breaking free and shooting 15-30 balls near the end. We won QF1-2 with 1305 and 358 because all three of us got on to the ramp for the 25 point bonus. 180 got up with one tread missing. We also played QF1-3 without that tread. Thankfully, we have four treads on our robot instead of two so we suffer from reduced traction and manuverability instead of being completely incompacitated if we lose one.
