Everyones Favorite part of Nationals

Hey Everyone

I was just wondering what everyone's favorite part of nationals was, like finale, walking threw the dome, or a more specific event.

I know mine was when after we had won a match and were walking out to form the field to the pits, I jumped up into the stands(like the end zone jump) and some people from 869 held me up and we congratulating me like they do to the players at football games.(And to you guys for not dropping me )

As if UTC hadn't already had me hooked to FIRST, Nationals definiteitly did.

Hmm....thats a hard one....

For me, my favorite part (even though I was at Nationals via Webcast) was watching Dave do his handstand with his red dot like he always does and always did. Dave is the greatest MC EVER!

By far the very first 195 to 968 ball transfer!
Nobody expected it
I mean seriously 115-108 (I might be wrong on 108)
without out that extra load and getting on the ramp it would have been over!

I also loved the teamwork between 25_968_195

like 968 helping 195 back up from that tip and 25 stopped defending to run over and save 968 from tipping on the ramp
this alliance was just awesome to watch
Newton was a killer!

Re: Everyones Favorite part of Nationals

As part of a rookie team, I thought the experience of gaining our way to nationals in our first year was an experience in itself. But i'd have to say that the final match (296, 217, 522-98 over 25, 968, 195- 94) was pretty awsome. It was by far the most entertaining and amazing match I saw over all the webcasts, two regionals, and the other nationals competitions. Thanks everyone for a great year!

I was so excited. 195 and 177 thought that up together at the UTC Regional, but we never had a chance to run it since we never paired up when we were working The technical term for that strategy is "The A-Bomb".

Yeah, Tom completely forgot about it until we brought it up after selections. We had been thinking about using this all season, but never really had the opportunity, until we got these two incredible teams.

Re: Everyones Favorite part of Nationals

It was awesome to have two great alliances/teams that we knew make it to the world finals. It was also somewhat hard to decide who to cheer for: the team we won with at the Southern California Regional, 968, or our division, Archimedes.

I have to agree with Elijah on the ball transfer between 195 and 968, that was awesome, but even cooler were the half-court shots 968 was making. They were beautiful, and they were definitely very new. We never saw them shoot from that far away from the goal and never saw a rampcamer shoot from that far away. The second match possibly had been the most intense match this whole season.

Re: Everyones Favorite part of Nationals

My favorite part was a conversation that went like this...

Me: Hey guys, how's things in the pits.
Jake: Ok, we talked to some judge.
Me: More judges! Awesome.

5 minutes later

Dan: Brian, did Jake tell you who talked to him in the pits?
Me: Yeah - another Judge
Dan: Do you know WHO?
Me: No.... who?
Dan: The co-founder of Apple
Me: WHO!?!?!
Jake: Wosniak... he had a cool Segway. I wonder if I could build one.
Me: Like THE Wosniak?
Jake: I think so. How much do you think a home made Segway would cost.

Re: Everyones Favorite part of Nationals

My favorite part of Nationals was not winning Newton. It was not being a national finalist. It was not winning National Innovation In Control as a team with no programming mentors.

It was being able to work with the amazing alliance partners of 968 and 25. We worked together like a well tuned swiss watch. The ball swapping was amazing, and I still can't believe we pulled it off so smoothly.

This event was amazing. I was able to go to Einstein with my best friend Corey, and make a whole bunch of new friends on 25 and 968. I will never forget what happened this week, and either will any member of Team 195. If there was a title of the "most inspired" team in FIRST, I believe we would hold it.

Re: Everyones Favorite part of Nationals

Many memories:
here's 4:
1. watching our team grow right before my eyes - the team that arrives on Wednesday is not the team that leaves on Saturday - it's very cool
2. introducing a rookie parent to the Championship experience - watching her experience MOE -
3. I could see teams 111 and 25 from where I sat in Galileo - the spirit and excitement could be felt across the arena
4. a senior from 922 would come find me several times during the 3 day event for hugs and farewells - Saturday she came 4 times - each time with tears - our teams have shared many competitions and she and I have shared the spirit of FIRST -
I feel mighty blessed.

Re: Everyones Favorite part of Nationals

2 things made this the best Championship ever for me.

1- Watching Ashley Allen's face when I introduced her to Chiniqua (MC on Newton). Ashley's face was absolutely priceless.

2- Watching team 11 fix their ball scoop inbetween quarterfinal matches. After they lost QF 2.1 and their ball scoop broke off, most of the people on the field counted them out of the next match and our allaince out of the QF's altogether (with 254, 71, and 753 as our opposition, it wasn't an unrealistic assumption). But then seeing the field crews faces after 11 not only got thier robot back on the field to win match 2, and come within a ball of winning match 3...that was worth any trophy or medal I can ever get.

Sure hanging a "Winner" Banner is a great feeling, but hanging a diploma from high school or college using the knowledge you learn from FIRST...that feeling is much much better.
