My mother, God bless her, has become the FIRST momma.

It used to be that at family gatherings there was a nice pattern. Everyone would be talking and stuff and then *all turn* "So Bubba, what are you up to these days?" I would answer, giving a nice little Sparknotes version of whatever was happening with me. But alas, NO MORE!

Instead, it's:
Family: "So Bubba, what are you up to these days?"
Me: "Well, I'm on the robotics team-"
My mom: *launches into a detailed explanation of Rebound Rumble*
Me: "Yep, what she said."

One of us OD'd...I'm still not sure which.

We have seen these, particularly in European "superstores" - there is an escalator for the shopping carts (does not create "steps" though, is just a moving belt) - the carts have powerful magnets on the wheels which engage when you move the cart to the belt. People take the regular escalators and meet their carts on the next floor to continue shopping :-)

You tell your friend sitting next to you about your regional schedule...[i have a regional, or at least the saturday, to go to every week but week 2]...

"I've decided I'm calling you Carmen SanDiego from now on."
"Why?"
"Because, for the next six weeks, just like the last six, I won't be able to find you"

...and they proceed to make up their own lyrics.

I'll post 'em later if i remember, they're pretty funny. For now, class is over.

-You wait on the bottom step on a flight of stairs wondering why the escalator isn't working.
-You carry a pair of safety glasses on you at all times... in everyday life.
-You come home and write a thread on Chief Delphi about knowing when you've overdoesed on FIRST robotics.

This is kind of scary.... I do most these things all the time...

I've tried to get all my friends to join FIRST, I always include "Lets all go nuts, ROBOTS, ROBOTS!" when talking with my programming teacher.

Oh yeah and I really really miss the escalators... don't need them here in good ol' flat Indiana.

I still have my side shields in my wallet (just in case there is a Safety Captain around )

So here's what I have to add:

- Your team cheers for the robot's autonomous programming (they named it RALFF )

- You often think that people are calling you by your FIRST name (mine's "Q")

- You have nightmares about the target light changing from green, to red, to blue.

- You look online to see when the date for the 2007 kickoff is. (already have it in my phone countdown )

- You check Google Earth to see if they have the golden poof ball marked yet.

- You can't find MARTA anywhere, but still carry your "Breeze" pass around.

- You think you pretty much know what next year's game is going to be. (I know I do )

- You type "sundial.first" into your address bar to see if it is counting down to next year's national competition.

- You just opened another tab to check the previous item.

- Not seeing Segways on a regular basis seems odd.

...When you have your team coonskin hat "watching you type your paper" (it followed me home, I have to take it back to the team... )

...When your non-FIRST friends seem surprised to see you.
...When your school bell makes you think "Are we backbot this match???"
...When you regret your decision not to buy three more championship t-shirts.
...When you take all the robotics related junk out of your purse...and it's got next to nothing in it.
...When your teachers say "So what city will you be in next weekend?"
...When your parents announce a family weekend trip and you wonder if there are any FIRST teams in the area that you could visit.

you know you have overdosed to first when while you are reading all of these things, you can smile and say "oh yeah, i miss doing that" and then, you start to tear up and scream "I MISS FIRST!!!"

-But out of all honesty, I have just experienced my first free monday in what seems like forever. I dont know what to do with myself. I feel like Im failing at life or something. "I MISS FIRST!!!!!!!"
