Re: Everyones Favorite part of Nationals

My favorite part was definately walking around the pits on Saturday and meeting a lot of people (more than at the webhug, interestingly enough)

I loved being able to 'operate' the HOTBOT and being able to meet some awesome people.

My favourite part was being able to witness a fellow Canadian team make it all the way for the first time in history! They put up an amazing fight. I also really enjoyed the fireworks at the team social!

Re: Everyones Favorite part of Nationals

to be honest, my favorite part was watching the A-Bomb Being pulled off. That was amazing and nobody had any idea that it could happen. Even my team use to joke around with the idea. But seeing it happen from the side lines was an amazing thing.

Re: Everyones Favorite part of Nationals

One of my favorite things was the bond between my team (MORT) and,Da Bears (247) and Tech Tigers (1251), who we won the Palmetto regional with.
-When we went over to Curie to cheer for our fellow Palmetto Champion Alliance Partners match on Friday. They didn't win, but seeing all of our teams together again, cheering and flooding the stands, was really awesome.
-When the Mentors and coach on Da Bears shaved their heads and had Mohawks, and then painted their heads with 'MORT' on one side and '11' on the other, and they came to watch us in the quarter finals along with a bunch of Tech Tigers sitting in the stands with us.
-When on Thursday so many people had their "I helped 1251 get to the nationals' shirts on.

Re: Everyones Favorite part of Nationals

My favorite part of the Championships this year was getting to see all the teams that I know. I spent Saturday at lunch running around the pits trying to find out what was happening with some of the teams that I know. It was sad for me because, even though I will try to remain a part of FIRST (Team 174 possibly) this is my last year as a High School Student.

Re: Everyones Favorite part of Nationals

first off i would like to ask what match at Einstein did 195 and 968 do that, this may sound stupid since i was coach for 1126 but i didnt get much time to watch the other teams in depth out there. also we had thought about doing that same strategy but didnt want to break anything.

I would have to say my favorite moments would be...

1. coming out of the tunnel and hearing the roar of the crowd, then looking up and seeing my brother cheering me on(he was our driver for our first 3 years and also made it to Einstein)
2. this was my first year being coach so the entire event was awesome and i wont forget this year

Re: Everyones Favorite part of Nationals

My favorite thing about the Championship event was that I learned something new about each student on our team who went.

I actually did an informal survey of our team, and the top 3, in no particular order were

1. Getting to look at all the cool and very different robots.
2. Hanging out in "Mr. V's Robot Lounge"
3. "Talking with cool people like Steve [Wozniak] and Mark [from IFI]"

Re: Everyones Favorite part of Nationals

After going to the dome plenty of times a year to work at the Papa John's stands to help raise money for our club, I loved being finally able to walk out onto the field and look up at the 71,250 seats and play on the same field as Michael Vick does (sounds dumb but w/e).

I loved being on the floor trading stories with a member on the robodogs (435) about a student who now mentored us that was on their team last year such as things about his particle accelerator and his fusion reactor he built....

However my ultimate favorite part was when 7 matches before our match, we found out our left drive module decided to quit on it. Rrather than giving up, we go the module off in 15 minutes when it usally takes like 30 minutes. Our human player had already left for the match.
2 matches left, we are like, okay, maybe we can rie with the module alone an dno gearboxes and have a partner push us into shooting range and shoot off our 10 balls, but then we get the gearbox opened up and find the problem and fix it. They tell me to leave for the match, I take the control system and run to the match. 1 match left before we are up and we see the robot coming but no drive module is on there yet.
40 seconds left in the match before us and we see one of our Georgia Tech mentors sprinting out to the queing area with the left drive module in his arms. Seconds later, we are working on the robot while it is on the cart and then someone gets the bright idea to turn it over and then work on it, so then like 6 people pick the bot up and set it on its side, then there are like 10 people crowded around the bot working on it trying to get the drive module on. The greatest thing about is that they were all from different teams. In my 3 years of FIRST experience, that was the coolest act of coopertition i have ever seen between the 3 teams on our alliance to get our robot running and working. Thanks to 540 and 346? (Robohawks) for helping us out.
Well anways we got the robot running and working before the match. It was the most intense thing ever.

Re: Everyones Favorite part of Nationals

my favorite part of the nationals was of course the great matches, and the wrap up party. the wrap up party was so awesome, because me and one of my team mates took over a carnival booth. the operator was really awesome, and we were able to have fun with the kids playing, and with us as operators everyone got a prize. we took over the game where you had to stick a ball in a bears mouth, and have it cover stars in a little tray under plexi glass.

Oh yes, RAWC vs. our own division. Well, I think regional loyalties trumped divisional loyalties in team 330's case, to judge by our cheering. (But wasn't there some speculation beforehand that Archimedes would be the "weakest" division?)

My favorite thing: For the first time, our whole team stayed downtown. I loved watching peoples' faces their first time seeing the Peachtree Station escalators!
