I ate all except for the salad, and I'm A-OK.

I hope you all feel better though.

Re: URGENT, PLEASE READ IF YOU WENT TO THE AFTER PARTY FOR NATIONALS

I went through table #2, and I'm fine. I got a chance to talk to Woodie this morning (he was on our MARTA train), and he asked us if we had any complaints. We said we thought it was awesome, and that the fireworks ruled. The only addition would be another laser tag tent, as we waited a good portion of the party to get into that one game.

Re: URGENT, PLEASE READ IF YOU WENT TO THE AFTER PARTY FOR NATIONALS

My wavy burger was great, and so were some of the 12 pies NERD's in action had through the night.. or.. so I am told.. since I didn't even get to enjoy any.

I think with a stressful weekend such as Nats with the high energy levels, and people coming from multiple places on the globe, then things are just gonna naturally happen this way.

Colds will be caught, allergies (like mine) which were previously dormant over the winter will start goin' crazy, and people will pass some stomach bugs around as well.

The only way to prevent this is to sterilize the entire city of Atlanta, and put a big bubble over yourself so you don't touch or breath in anything but the air you bring from wherever you come from..

But.. since we can't do that don't just jump to conclusions and say I'm sick cause of the wrap party food.

How much running around did you do this week as opposed to a normal one?
I'm guessing more.

How many times did you eat or rest and drink this week as opposed to a normal one?
I'm guessing a lot less.

How much sleep/rest did you get this week as opposed to a normal one?
I'm bettin' everything I own on not enough or less than a normal week.

Bottom line, it's not alway what you eat, but what you do and how your body reacts to it that is the factor of whether or not you got sick..

Don't be quick to say it's the food at a huge gathering, but look at how you reacted to everything in the big picture.

Re: Post After-Party sickness?

I'm sick right now (flu like symptoms) and have stayed home from school. I can tell you that I know exactly where it came from. Not sleeping enough, not eating right, getting stressed, and then being exposed to anything that might be going around schools all over the US, Canada, Brazil, Israel, and the UK. I have a feeling that it's just the effect of being in close quarters with a lot of people, many of whom were probably getting sick, and most of whom were not taking good care of themselves.

Ugh, now I've missed 4 days of school in a row and I still feel like crap, at least I got some sleep.

Re: Post After-Party sickness?

This has been discussed in some of the other threads also. It's bound to happen. I like to think of myself as the Energizer bunny but reality says I am worn out, my immune system is now repressed and I will pick up everything. I've been ill since January, doing way too much. I picked up the laryngitis virus in early March and the "stomach bug" on Week 5 of the regionals and came home from Atlanta with a cold. Get some rest. Eat right. Drink lots of fluids. All those things we should know to do but we don't...

Re: Post After-Party sickness?

Back in Michigan on the Sunday before the Championship Event Teams 70 and 494 had a Championship driver strategy meeting at my home. By Monday we were all sick with the most severe stomach flu I've ever seen.

Our team 494 driver (my son) and ball operator were down and I mean down for the count!!!

Our team 70 ball operator was still recovering Thursday at practice rounds.

My wife, kids and I were all sick!

Worst stuff I've EVER had! Just plain NASTY!

This is probably what is going around the country now.

Re: Post After-Party sickness?

We have a bunch of people on our team who are sick. It doesn't seem to be linked to anything in particular that anyone ate. One of our students only ate the salad, another only ate the burgers, hot dogs, and brownies, both have had to go to the hospital.

Re: Post After-Party sickness?

I too can attest to the lack of sleep/not eating right/stressed out sickness. We had 6 team members with flu-like sympotms over the course of the event, some worse than others. We spent both wednesday and saturday night sleeping on the bus on the way to/from Atlanta to save hotel costs, so lack of proper sleep was for sure the issue. The good news is, with some good rest and proper eating you bounce back relatively quickly.

Being on the drive team as coach, I generally end up sick at just about every regional, regardless of how hard I try to eat properly, because lack of proper sleep and stress are always going to be factors. Only in FIRST do you see students and mentors grinning and bearing a whole range of sicknesses, just so they can continue competing. Get well soon everybody.

Re: Post After-Party sickness?

thank you to everyone who posted, but a majority of the people who were sick are fine now. a few ppl including myself have a few little problems like the occasionaly stomach ache and head ache, but we will be fine. we do not believe it had anything to do with the food, but more likely someone was carrying a bug and spread it when we were in such close quarters

peace
