Re: pic: Mentor Prank gone BAD!

Amateurs.

What's even worse is when you are assigned the room with 2 other mentors, and the students ask you to be part of the prank they want to play on them, but the first thing out of the other 2 mentors mouth's as we arrived in our room, was that "if anything happens to our room you're getting blamed".

None the less, we made a huge (non destructive) mess of the room.

I called the mentors when we were in the room doing this stuff, and they said they would be back real late (12 or later) so we thought we were good to go.. but alas, read on.

The kids bought a ton of post-it notes and had fun with them, Also, a bunch of cups, shaving cream, and then toilet paper got added after this batch of pics were taken, I'm still looking for more pics I know people have.

Mentor names on the beds. http://podquard.multiply.com/photos/...2F12%2F245.jpg

A tall (full of water) cup pyramid entering the bathroom:

&

Almost all the light bulbs were removed from the lamps and what not and hidden in a drawer, as was Mike's great idea.
http://podquard.multiply.com/photos/...2F12%2F251.jpg

The TV
http://podquard.multiply.com/photos/...2F12%2F253.jpg

and desk were attacked with shaving cream and post-its as well.
http://podquard.multiply.com/photos/...2F12%2F255.jpg

And other things were done as well.

The TV volume was turned all the way up, and cable was unplugged so that they would get a loud surprise. (never came to be)

Toilet paper was run over the whole room, so you needed matrix type moves to avoid them all.

The beds were "short sheeted" which.. I'm still confused as to what that means actually.

The toilet was rigged to not fill up when they flushed it.

As far as pranks go, it was great cause it didn't involve any room damage charges, which would definitely suck.

The best part of it all was, that they (mentors) called my phone, and I said I wasn't gonna go out with them that night cause I was still at the restaurant they knew I was eating at still waiting for my order.

So, I assumed they wouldn't be back for a long time..

The thing is though, they came back way to early, just as I was closing the door between the rooms and I saw one of them, but the great thing was the look on his face in the darkened room and then I slammed the door shut.. and cowered in a ball.. and kept saying.. oh man.. oh man oh man..

Then one of them called me, and said that it better be all cleaned up by the time the maid comes in the next morning and I was responsible for it all and they were leaving.

Come to find out, when I went back into my room, they were still around, and laughed about the whole thing.

Apparently, they were planing on getting back at all the kids, and call up their parents, tell them about the joke, and they were cool with it, but have their parents call the kids asking why they have a meeting with the principal, and the superintendent of schools at 9am Monday morning.

That never happened.

I'm still waiting for the retaliation for letting the kids in our room, so.. I'll be on guard for quite a while.

Ahh.. fun times in Atlanta..

It was supposed to be a lot better, they (students) actually went to a local restaurant the night before looking for a big box of cups to get donated for a "school project". Good thing the people at the restaurant didn't know what that meant. Unfortunately, they needed the managers approval, and they weren't able to go back and get them.

It was going to be a lot more elaborate as well, involving cups stapled to each other making a row, and that row stapled to another row and so on and so forth, and that would cover the whole floor, and then they would be filled with water.

We all know the only way to get rid of them then would be to rip the cups and spill water everywhere, so I'm glad they didn't do that.

I made sure they (students) stayed as non-destructive as possible.

Everything we did was easily thrown away, or cleaned up with a washcloth and some water (shaving cream) and nothing was ever ruined.

Hooray for pranks!

Once the students finished TP'ing the entire room, they forgot to unlock the deadbolt and went through the connected door that was already lock. When Quinn and I went back to our room, we could not open the entrance door because it was deadbolt and could not go through the connected door because it was lock. We spent about 25 minutes trying to get in our room, then another 20 minutes for the hotel engineer to open the entrance door. Overall, it was poor planning on behalf of the students.
In 2003 when the Championships were in Houston, I decided I was going to play a prank on my roommate and do something similar, where I locked the deadbolt and hid his supersoakers, which he had just bought at Toys R' Us that day. Well, I went into the mentor's connected room and shut my adjoining door, and the rest can be summarized by the mentors needing to take apart the door mechanism and some other things occurring. Overall it was an interesting experience.

Re: pic: Mentor Prank gone BAD!

Of course, as a sober, mature mentor who considers his role on the team to be a good role model for the youth, I have to take a dim view of such irresponsible shenanigans. As an overage 17-year-old, woo hoo! Good prank.

I believe the most important characteristics of a good prank are:

1. Nothing valuable is destroyed or defaced.
2. No one is hurt.
3. Repairing the prank damage doesn't require special training or expensive tools.
4. It has to be funny, not just mean. The prankster also has to make sure it is a shared joke and not hazing. If you aren't sure what the difference is, don't do it.

I won't tell you about the time we ... Hmm. I guess I don't want my team to read about that one...

Amateur ;-)

Short-sheeting a bed means to take a sheet, starting at the pillow end, and put it on the bad like it was the bottom sheet - but, stop halfway down and fold it back towards the pillow, putting it on like it was the top sheet. It's only one sheet, and it folds about 4' from the pillow end, so when you get into the bed, it's too short for legs - meaning you ahve to get out of bed and make it before you can sleep.

BTW, I agree completely with Rick's post above. w00t.

This is one of the best pranks for hotel rooms. But it doesn't work if you're in a private home, because if you shortsheet the hostess, there's no way you can put all 50 of her stuffed animals back on the bed the way they're supposed to be, and she'll know at a glance that someone has been messing with her bed.

Short-sheeting is best done to the person who has to stay out latest, because they come back to the room and everyone else is "asleep," the lights are out, and the victim tries so hard to be very quiet as they get ready for bed, until the attempt to climb in. (Of course, the "sleepers" will all be helpful and make the bed properly after the laughter.)

Another prank, putting Vaseline on doorknobs, has probably gone out of fashion along with round doorknobs. Sounds like deadbolts are performing the same function, however.
