Re: Lettering in FIRST

My school does not have letters for robotics, but the captains got leadership letters.

Re: Lettering in FIRST

I got a letter this year from 1002 but Jeremy Roberts' back seat stole it.
I think we are just putting bars in the place of pins. I know that kids on the Forsyth Alliance (team 1746) are getting Chevrons to add every year. I have heard of teams having gears that they put on the letter.

Re: Lettering in FIRST

As mentioned we did issue letters and the current thought is to use the standard chevron for additional years. However, I did speak with the letter manufacturer's rep about creating a gear pin that could be used and they were wondering if the demand would warrant the production. If the depand is large enough the cost will be reasonable. Right now for just our team it is not cost efficient to produce the die and the pin would cost more than the letter itself.

I would like to see if others are interested in the gear pin so then we can pursue the creation of the pin.

I am raising my hand quite immensely. Because I was thinking of trying to find a gear pin for everyone if a FIRST pin can't be achieved before the end of the school year.

Re: Lettering in FIRST

Team 811 has given varsity letters for many years; the standard that we follow involves a student who has been on the team for at least two years, is a junior or senior in school, made significant contributions to the team and/or robot, regularly shows leadership in the team, and has the endorsement of the mentors on the team.
A number of years ago we had pins made for us by the Aaron Label Pin and Button company. Their 1" square cloisonne pints cost us about $2.75 apiece (for 100), and they're gorgeous! Here's a slightly oversized image of what they look like:

If anyone's interested I can help you do your own.

Re: Lettering in FIRST

Logoloc (the company that has the wonderful FIRST stand in Atlanta) sells FIRST pins here for $3.00 each. The pin is .5" wide and matches the size of other generic letterman pins (it is the same size as my cheer megaphone and debate gavel)
