Re: 2006 Monty Madness - Spread the Word!!!

Well we're not planning any event for next year right now. At this point, we're going to take a breather and assess what we'll do going forward, which will certainly include more activities than an off-season event (like building the 2007 robot ).

Just one thing: I've noticed that there are a number of comparisons between off-season events in both this thread and others. My personal opinion is that this doesn't seem to be a particularly useful thing to do. Let's think "big picture" here, practice our graciousness, and remember that all teams holding off-season events should be considered partners and not competitors. And what I mean is that off-season event organizers are all attempting to bring the core values of FIRST to a larger community and instill a sense of excitement for science and technology. How we accomplish this may be different, but rich diversity in approach can be good while we all share a common vision.

Re: 2006 Monty Madness - Spread the Word!!!

Thank you to everyone who could make it out to this year's Monty Madness. It was great to see such a large turn out especially since this was a first year event. The competition was very tiring, but definitely worth it. We hope that we were successful in spreading the ideas of FIRST to the communities around us because that was actually one of the main goals of this off-season competition. Everything ran well(but a little delayed ) and it was great to see everyone so excited about all of the stuff we were selling .

Thank you to all of the volunteers who made it out to the competition. Without you guys, we would not have been able to put on the show.

See you at Duel on the Delaware, Ramp Riot, and Brunswick Eruption....

Re: 2006 Monty Madness - Spread the Word!!!

Thanks:

Team 1403 and David Kazan for letting me emcee this awesome event. I had so much fun and learn a lot from the experience and can't wait until next year.

To all the volunteers for making this another great competition in the State of NJ.

I got to meet Jay,Conor,Sara, and other fellow CD members (AWESOME)

Overall it was an awesome event and hope to see it return next season.

I made up for that though, and I sit here posting this one only a half hour after I woke up today.

Re: 2006 Monty Madness - Spread the Word!!!

Monty Madness was a great event. David Kazan and his team did a fantastic job. There was a great group of volunteers and kudos to all.
Major kudos to those volunteers who had the hardest job of all and stayed for clean up. You all know who you are!
You haven't actually experienced helping to run a FIRST event if you haven't participated in the rug roll up.

On behalf oh my team, 528, I want to give props to 25. Our alliance gave everything to try and stop you guys and couldn't do it. My team and I also agree that you guys, 25, were the hardest robot ever came up against. Gahhh! Those brakes of yours! Anyways I just wanted to congratulate you and your alliance. We had a great time. Also want to thank to 303 and 1926, you guys were awesome alliance partners.

Re: 2006 Monty Madness - Spread the Word!!!

I want to add my compliments on the great day yesterday. Dave and his 1403 crew put on a great event and made it look easy. Everything was staged in a professional manner and I look forward to many more MMs to come in the future. Our team enjoyed training new drivers and mixing it up in the elims with many of our local friends.

Thanks and congrats to 1089 and 371 for being great partners. Of course I am partial to 1089, but I must say I've never seen a team rebuild a frame and drive wheels as fast as 371 in the Semis! It was quite a run.

Just posted the awards on the www.montymadness.org website. There is even a link to a picture of the Finals Ladder so you can see the match-ups (special thanks to son Bob K. for extracting the picture from the video). Sorry about the delay. We'll try to get additional match info up later.

Re: 2006 Monty Madness - Spread the Word!!!

For those of you unable to attend, here is a photo of the field.

The venue was wonderful, as were the pits. The snack bar and food court were top notch and inexpensive. Just loved the candy bars. You guys went all out, we were happy to be there. Just wish we had switched our robot on for that last semi match...

[btw, we're 1923]

25...thanks for a bunch of great matches. our alliance worked really hard, and there was no way we could have stopped you, save the "oops! did i spill water on THAT? was that important?" approach. and that would have been way uncool.

it was kind of funny. teams came up to us..."hey guys, you were great! who was your mentor team?"

"25"

"....*double take* WHAT?!?! weren't you ranked above them?"

"yeah..but they kicked our butts anyway."

thanks to 1089 and 371, too. those were some great matches.

A birdie told me that a web archive *might* be uploaded soon. I'd love to see some of those matches myself, as my focus was on the side goals.
