Does your brain work?

Just something that my uncle sent me that I thought was cool. I'm sure someone can engineer me how it works...

If your eyes follow the movement of the rotating pink dot, you will only see one color, pink.
If you stare at the the black + in the center, the moving dot turns to green.

Now, concentrate on the black + in the center of the picture. After a short period of time, all the pink dots will slowly disappear, and you will only see a green dot rotating.

It's amazing how our brain works. There really is no green dot, and the pink ones really don't disappear.
This should be proof enough, we don't always see what we think we see.

Huh. I only see a green dot, rotating around a bunch of pink dots. Well, not around ... taking the place of one pink dot, then the next, then the next ... you get the idea.

No matter how hard on concntrate on the + or try to follow the rotation, that's all I see.

... I think my brain must be broken.

My favorite optical illusion, so to speak, is attached here. Square A and Square B are two different shades of gray, right? Think again - they're actually the same shade. Don't believe me? Copy the image into your favorite paint program and see for yourself!

I remember a friend showing this to me back in September, in fact I saved it to my comp. Yes it was September. Can't remember where it came from, but I still find it very interesting ever time I pass over that image during a clean up.

My brain works just fine . However, i just took your attachment into M$ paint, and the two squares still look like two different shades or gray when magnified. Does anybody else's results differ?

I tried too and they are a little different but suprisingly close for what it looks like.

It looks that way, even when magnified. But try cutting one and putting it next to the other - see?

I noticed that square B's shade varies in white saturation because of the shadow, while square A is relatively consistent. So I think this one is a bit less than honest, but still not enough to explain why the two look so different.

You're not checking them correctly. Katie meant go into the program and check the RGB levels of the two boxes. Both of the boxes are R,G,B 107,107,107 or in hex, #6B6B6B.

I didn't believe it, so I took it into photoshop and put the B square on the A square and sure enough, the same shade. That's a good one.

I believe it after the shown evidence but i still don't want to believe it just because they look so different.

Ah, I see it now. M$ doesn't even have a way to check the hex/hue numbers, but I wouldn't have expected it from them anyways. That's pretty neat.

Beth, did you get the rest of the powerpoint presentation this was in, or just that one image file..

Paint has a way to check the RGB values. Use the selection tool (eye dropper thing ) and click in one of the boxes A or B. Then click the colors menu and go to the custom colors. It shows the RGB and hue of the color you selected, but not hex.
