Power to Dashboard
Is there any port on the OI that provides any sort of power to devices (such as the joystick ports)? Are there detailed pinouts of the entire OI available on the internet anywhere?
Thanks! Chris Team 177 |

Re: Power to Dashboard
Like Adam said, the joystick ports provide +5v on pin 1 but the max current draw is like 100 mA.
I don't know what you need, but here's the reference guide for the OI http://ifirobotics.com/docs/oi-ref-guide-11-21-05.pdf the pinout guide for the joystick ports is on page 7 -Chris |

Re: Power to Dashboard
Wait a minute!
There is no power source available from the OI. There are a few 10 ma, current limited LED outputs that can be used to drive an LED direct without the use of external resistors. Please see the OI documentation for information on the mapping and pinout for LED drivers. The 5 volt supply that feeds the joystick reference pins is not available for any other use but joysticks. The FIRST rulebook is very clear on this and the IFI documentation as well. Fooling with the joystick power supply comprimises the operation of the OI and how it reads the value of the joystick. |

Re: Power to Dashboard
A team used the LED power pins on the OI joystick ports to power a PIC to deserialize data from a PS2 controller. You can read it's whitepaper.
