I agree with Mike Walker as usual. This wheel Alex is amazing I love it. Leave it to FIRST people to come out with a Mecanum wheel for VEX before VEX does . Nice work Alex keep it up man very cool.

Re: pic: Vexanum 2.0

i was thinking of making the designs for some of those this summer with inventor, and then... print them out on our totally awesome 3D printer we just got this year... so if anyone say already has some designs for them made, i might be able to print um up for you depending if teachers will allow me to.

Re: pic: Vexanum 2.0

Question: are the rollers on a machanum wheels supposed to be set at 45 degrees or can they be set at different angles?
All machanum wheels I have seen have the rollers set at 45 degrees and the Vexanum 2.0 wheels look like they are set at a different angle. Perhaps someone could clarify this for me.

They can be set at any angle, strictly speaking, but the 45* offset is the most efficient choice for lateral translation. You could similarly optimize the roller angle of each well to facilitate, say, translation at 30* from forward if you chose.

going "forwards" with 45* mecanums, you'll go at about 50%, 90*, or omnis will get you 100%, and 30* will be less forward movement than 45*, and 60 will get you more than 45.
oh and the 50% is not correct if i remember a thread from looong ago

i read a pdf i found on Google a long time ago about actively adjustable roller angle mecanumwheels. it was basically like a collective pitch actuator inside the hub of the wheel that let you change the angle of the rollers from 45* to 0*. mostly for efficiency in forward motion and also some Redneck gear reduction while moving sideways. much like the rotor blades of a helicopter or an airplane propeller with adjustable pitch

Re: pic: Vexanum 2.0

Sorry about the lack of reply. The roller are 3/8 id gas tubing from autozone with a sheet of brass foil from Joann fabrics on the inside to act as bushings. i am not sure about the angle of the wheels. Due to the stock vex plate design It was hard getting a consistent angle so its whatever angle it happens to be. While this is the only finished one currently those of you going to Ruckus off season comp will get to view them in action on my vex bot. Thankyou for the support.
