These seem to be awesome... If you watch some of the videos, You'll be amazed at what they can pull a vehicle through. It seems to me that these should be put to use more than they are... So I ask you this:

Why aren't these more main-stream?

In any case, these are neat and I thought I'd show you... Maybe we'll see some mini versions in the future of FIRST

Videos:

Re: Mattracks

That's really neat. I wonder how they stand up in everyday use .

Re: Mattracks

Some of the reasons that they aren't "mainstream" are that they have a top speed of 40mph, are not very fuel efficient, and are expensive...they are very useful for their purpose which is off-roading.
I have seen several vehicles with these on them and they are least to say VERY INTIMIDATING and look really cool

Re: Mattracks

Wow, we could sure use those up here in the winter when it snows 8" on top of ice.

Re: Mattracks

...what fun is that?

I'm an avid Jeep enthusiast, part of building your vehicle up is seeing what kind of challenging terrain you can make it through, over, up, etc. Seems like those Mattracks would take all the fun out of off-roading.

Re: Mattracks

As being a HUGE off-roader for a while (Owned 2 Jeeps, XJ and a ZJ) and have gone w/ people around the state of michigan, I've seen the tracks and man are they awsome.

They are fun if you have the $$. Even better if you are in NEED of them for work or whatever.

Personally they take the fun out of off roading, but hey, if people will buy them they will continue selling them!

It doesn't remove the fun of offroading...it make it more fun...

ex. Offroading invloves attempting to get you vehicle as far from the main road as possible...Mattracks allow you to get stuck in a more remote inaccesible location...thus fulfilling the offroading challenge

ps....i (will) have a new WAI regarding these since i am currently on vacation in yellowstone and got to take pics with a set

Re: Mattracks

My opinion...I'm not trying to start a flame war, nor am I going off on Bill. Don't take it the wrong way, please.

That is one sense of off-roading. However, in another sense, is the challenge of maneuvering your vehicle through, across, over, under, (and somtimes rolled ) across all kinds of terrain. Sure you would be able to make it farther more easily, but would Tellico or Paragon Adventure Park be as fun if you can run all the trails in half a day? I like having to figure out the best approach across a bed of rocks, or making it halfway through a trail and breaking your track-bar and having your power steering pump get pulled out of the frame. (not really fun, but hey, its part of off-roading).
