Re: pic: swash plate

yea i figure someday i ccan put all of this to good use but i think its really fun to do for now. CAD is like having clay in your hands, but it doesn't look like a horror show after its been through the kiln, a.k.a. the renderer. Plus ive always found putting things together on inventor, even if it does look bad, gives me a much better understanding of how it works

Re: pic: swash plate

You have some mad skilz!

I just really want to know if this is actually to scale? Did you actually research all the specifications (not just for this but for the mp3player/car/&helicopter?)

The greatest challenge I have when using Inventor is not making things, but making things that are actual representations of parts that can be purchased online.

If I had one wish it would be that McMaster Carr would document their parts with CAD

This will be 10x more amazing if you tell me that its actually to scale!
If not its still awesome.
Nice work.

Actually, they do, but only for very few parts, you could browse for hours and not run across one.

Re: pic: swash plate

I wonder if some good CAD people could volunteer CAD designs of things that they had created off of actual McMaster parts for McMaster to host....

I have many parts, including all Anderson Connectors, and some other McMaster parts, that I'd be glad to give them if they'd host the files. (my library even includes some iParts)

I believe that is roughly the purpose of this although I don't believe volunteers can donate models (they should however).

I've often hoped that there would be a way to share CAD files.

Its really redundant making parts that others have already made.

Re: pic: swash plate

McMaster-Carr had best have the best web site out there because you need to buy 10 million widgets from them to get a printed catalog .

That being said ... yeah, they are great .

its funny you mention that. i thorugh a lot of research to find out everything i could about the lotus. There are very descriptive schematics and pictures out there, as well as accurate measurings of most of the parts. the same is true for the swash and the helicopter, as well as the schmeisser gun (i am deadly afraid to post this because its kind of creep to post a picture of a gun on delphi)

as for the mp3 player i just used pedro to get all of em.

derived parts i believe will also allow you to change the scale, and i have been using parametrics more and more lately, as it doesn't take a lot of effort to punch in a few more letters and numbers.

what is this "McMaster Carr" you speak of?

Okay, basically they sell just about any and every mechanical component you will ever need and more. Awesome place.
