Do you think we could get an update on how the AndyMark Mecanums are coming along?

Re: AndyMark Mecanums

They sure look nice. $375 for the set (plus the transmissions) hurts, but I can't exactly remember any mecanum system being particularly cheap. (I inspected 357 at UCF; while I don't remember hard numbers, the casting for their hubs was a large part of their BoM.)

Then again, a pair of AM Shifters will run you $660, plus more in wheels (ones that won't go Oink! Oink! Boom!); raid your old KoPs for the Kit transmissions, and you can build a Mecanum drive for less than an AM-Shifter-and-6WD setup. (Of course, you'd have to declare the value of those extra two transmissions for your BoM, but I doubt you'll break the $3500 limit.)

This brings about the next question: Who's gonna post video of these things in action first?

Re: AndyMark Mecanums

Now that we have the CAD model and dimensions I asked for last week, I want more! Particularly, it'd be awesome to have the mirrored wheels available as a CAD model and some more information about its construction; materials and weight, particularly. Mirroring the existing CAD model shouldn't be too difficult to do, I suppose, so if I get to it I'll post that model here.

We'll probably be ordering a set soon, since the kids really want to make something like this work, even if we don't use it next season it will be fantastic for demonstrations, and Andy made it a whole lot easier on our heads and wallets.

I'll get an opposite CAD model posted soon. Also, materials, weights, friction coeffecients, and usage documents are coming. Sorry things have taken so long with this, but our main struggles have been with trying to get our costs down.

Take your time, Andy. I think I have enough to keep me busy for at least a few hours while I design our chassis.

Re: AndyMark Mecanums

The price seems a bit steep, but the way I look at it, you aren't just buying wheels, you are buying time (and smiles on your fabricators' faces). If you can decide on day 1 that you want a mecanum drive, you can be programming it at the beginning of week two. That's worth something.

From what I've heard from other teams, $375 is a bargain compared to what it cost to get a shop to make them.

Re: AndyMark Mecanums

It's not that expensive, I remember talking to Andy at the GTR competition where to which he brought one of the wheel prototypes and asked what would be a resonable price for each. I said something like 65 or 75...These come out to 53$ a piece CAN
