FRC Championships in the latest ROBOT magazine issue

There is a great article in the fall 2006 ROBOT magazine covering Championships (page 72). There are a lot of CD quotes used in the article, and nice play-by-play of the action on Einstein. If you don't subscribe to ROBOT magazine, check out the magazine here you just might want to sign up.

Re: FRC Championships in the latest ROBOT magazine issue

Robot Magazine has had at least one article in every of their issues with FIRST mentioned or talked about. I have all but the first issue. I highly recommend everyone to take a look at it.

Is there any chance that we could maybe get a scan of the pages the article is on?

We don't want to violate copyright laws , AND this is a great magazine with lots of useful material.

They're only on issue #4, I don't want to see them close the magazine down because of lack of readership. We FIRSTers should be fully supporting an effort like this, because it can only help FIRST in the long run.

Isn't $5 bucks worth a look at a great magazine?

Order a copy.

I'm on my way to Walmart right now to buy probably the first of the Fall 2006 issues purchased at my Walmart. I kept looking everytime I go to walmart for the new issue.

Re: FRC Championships in the latest ROBOT magazine issue

I got a subscription to ROBOT for my birthday. Fabulous present. The magazine is really informative and has stuff on all kinds of robotics, and the section on FIRST is cool because it introduces FIRST to people who may not have known about it. I highly recommend picking a copy of it up.

DONE! I just subscribed online. $20/year - 4 issues/year - $5/copy delivered to my mailbox. If they will continue to support FIRST by spreading the word then I will continue to support them. I urge everyone who's life has been altered by FIRST to help support this magazine by paying for your copy rather than reading an illegal online scan. They are supporting FIRST, FIRST helped you, pay them back by buying their product so they can be here for the future generations of FIRST. Pay it forward folks!

Re: FRC Championships in the latest ROBOT magazine issue

I bought my copy last night. Other than the FIRST articles and ads, I don't find much use for ROBOT magazine. I'm not into the RoboCup or even biped robots.

You're welcome to your opinion, but I think you're selling your team short as a mentor.

Robotics does not revolve around FIRST, FIRST is the product of robotics research everywhere.

I try to read and understand as much robotics material as possible. You may find a great hardware or software solution that can come in handy for a FIRST robot, and we FIRSTers are just scratching the surface of sensors and autonomous programming that is second nature to other robot hobbyists. The more you learn, the more valuable you'll be to FIRST, and your team.

Re: FRC Championships in the latest ROBOT magazine issue

I just picked up my copy of Robot Magazine. I haven't really gotten to read much of it, just the article on FIRST.

I have to say, it is probably the most informative and accurate article I have read on FIRST. It didn't make any mentions of this year's game as "basketball for robots," as people seem to love to do. It also didn't have anything comparing it to BattleBots. I liked the quotes/links they had at the end of the article. It clearly described this year's game, and it was really conveyed as the action-packed game that it is.

I thoroughly enjoyed the article on FIRST, and I'm going to read the rest of the articles in there.

One thing I didn't understand, though-They mentioned 111 winning Chairman's, as well as 195 winning the Innovation in Control award, but there was no mention of any other awards won by other teams. I just thought that was a bit odd.

Robot Magazine is my favorite periodical. Wired is a close second.

Dr. Ken Berry authored the article on the FIRST Championships. Ken knows FIRST, and many of us in FIRST have known Ken for years. He has been a keynote speaker at the Indiana FIRST Teams forums, done surveys at the FIRST Championships, and has helped start the RoboEducators effort across the nation. He's been around FIRST for years and did a great job in writing that article. Also... did you notice that he gave special credit to Brandon Martus in the quotes section of the article? Great job, Ken!!!

I didn' t know that! Thanks for the info. This year was my rookie year, so...

That's really interesting, though. And yes, I did notice the credit to Brandon. I was very glad to see that, in addition to the fact that it is acknoweldged as a great resource for FIRSTers and anyone who might want to become a FIRSTer.
