Pluto not a planet anymore
According to the news this morning, Pluto is no longer has the title of planet of which it was declared in 1930. From now we only have 8 planets. From now on it is considered to be a "dwarf" planet.

Re: Pluto not a planet anymore
So Ceres, Charon, and others will all be classified as "dwarf planets".... Well that's interesting.

Re: Pluto not a planet anymore
Stephen Colbert is going to be furious about this...
So will Disney... And pretty much anyone who had a way of remembering what were 9 planets: My Very Educated Mother Just Sent Us Nine... what? Nine something, I just don't know. AHHHHHH!!! |

![]() I expect at least Colbert to mention it, but both should be quite humorous. Errm, thread topic. That sort of, well... I guess it can be expected, but it's pretty uncool like that, yannow Annoying. I <3 Pluto. He has floppy ears. |

Re: Pluto not a planet anymore
These astronomers sure have planet sized egos!
Pluto has been called a planet since what? 1930? Who appointed these people the galactic executives over semantics and nomenclature? What happens to the beings who live on Pluto now? Are they being demoted to lesser life forms as well? (Well you dont live on a real planet, so you are not important anymore!) Last edited by KenWittlief : 24-08-2006 at 15:56. |

Re: Pluto not a planet anymore
So...we can change the classification of planets worldwide, yet we all can't agree on a single measurement system (metric).

Re: Pluto not a planet anymore
shouldnt we also stop calling Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune and Uranus planets as well?
They are nothing like earth I suggest we call them "Gas Bloated Comet Snarfing Frozen Micro Starlettes" There! Now we only have 4 planets! (And Mercury better watch out!) |

Man, if Pluto wasn't a planet in 3rd grade I would have had a way easier time on that Solar System test.

if Pluto cant be a planet anymore then I say neither can those frozen fat gas bloated comet suckers! they are micro starlettes that never had what it takes to obtain fusion and ignite. THERE! I said it - they are looser star wannabees I know it, you know it, THEY know it - lets stop pretending they are planets and call them what they really are. Re: Pluto not a planet anymore
What's all the fuss about? It's not like some secret board of inquisitors met and voted to kick Pluto out of the solar system! It's still there!
Besides, NASA already launched the mission to go look at Pluto, hopefully arriving on the scene circa ten years hence. It's probably too late to turn back now. |
