Re: Duct Tape Usage

you can enter to win a scholarship for going to prom in duck tape dresses and tuxs. It looks pretty sweet! It might take awhile to make, but i've seen some wicked sweet designs and they're arent simple either.

Cool beans though Michelle.

I'll have to visit you for a custom fitting and you'll have to make me a pair during Nats next year.

As far as duct tape uses goes, I should really (not say this for fear someone else will pwn my car like this) but... I should like.. pimp out my car and make the hood covered in duct tape.

Or.. maybe a big silver duct tape racing stripe.. lol who knows..

A nice 6" wide duct tape racing stripe right down the center of the car would be cool.. eh maybe with some single strips down the sides too.. spaced out a bit.. so it's a nice 3-stripe combo??

No.. honest.. I have never thought of doing this..

Well at ramtech once or twice our mentor went duct tape crazed and we almost duct taped the whole robot 3 years ago instead of welding. Was carazy!

Re: Duct Tape Usage

I am the proud owner of a silver and yellow card deck cover, which is actually very useful. My friends have also made duct tape ties (really ugly), duct tape wallets (very useful), and a duct tape purses (it only looks as good as the effort you put into it).

It would also be good to start a separate thread on zip-tie usage. All hail the amazing duct tape and the mighty zip-tie!!!

I've used Zip ties for computers as well.

My band has also used duct tape recently to hold guitar straps on the guitar and to hold mic and mic cables together

For all your duct tapped products.

I cringe to even mention this for fear some one will try it, but I one saw a Phd. wrap a leaking pipe around the out side with duct tape to keep it from leaking refrigerant. If you think this was a good idea please do not actually work on your team's robot for the safety of everyone who attends a FIRST competion

Re: Duct Tape Usage

Connecticut's state math team was on the way to our competition and we had been in the bus for about 8 hours when we got bored. One brilliant team member had brought along duct tape, which he removed from under his seat while he proceeded to tell us his plan... We waited until the coach of the entire team got up to use the restroom in the back of the bus, and swiftly proceeded to duct tape the door shut from the outside so that he couldn't get out. It took him a while to figure out why the door wouldn't open... But to answer the original question, my own uses for duct tape are fairly conventional. I've only witnessed the interesting displays of duct tape usage at math team.

Re: Duct Tape Usage

A friend of mine went to a LPANE LAN party, and when he came back, showed me a picture of somebody duct taped to the ceiling, playing a game above a bunch of other people sitting in chairs like normal people. I believe his computer was also duct-taped to the ceiling.

Re: Duct Tape Usage

my wallet fell in the toilet about a month or so ago and I didn't have time to go out and buy a new one, so I made a duct tape one. I'm really glad I had it because it was pouring down rain last night and I had to walk about a quarter of a mile in ice cold rain, but atleast everything in my wallet stayed dry!!
My friend made a duct tape prom dress, and she uses duct tape to wrap everyone's birthday presents!! She's also made a halloween costume out of it, and after I opened my birthday present from her, I took the wrapping, added a handle, and made a purse!

Re: Duct Tape Usage

Duct tape's great, and I've seen some pretty amazing things (swords, skirts, suits, and many wallets). My personal uses of duct tape include the tray for a money box to replace the one we lost and the conventional uses in hardware.

I'm a BIG fan of gaff tape. I do technical production stuff for stage performances a lot, and gaff tape is now my best friend. It's a bit more expensive, but it comes in nice colors (very nice for easily finding things in the relative darkness) and I can honestly say that I haven't used a roll of duct tape that's stronger than that stuff. The one downside is that if you leave it out you'll find the pretty colors all over the place and end up losing most of it to the cast that must think it's free.
