[WRRF]: Cal Games Weekly #3 Aug 28th
Cal Games Weekly #3 Aug 28th
Hi folks! Here is another update on the Cal Games progress. The topics of this issue include: 1. Registration: 8 teams registered with 5 days until deadline. 2. Planning group's visit to WRRF storage space & Pioneer HS. 3. Field Elements: Getting ready to do the work. 4. Referees & Inspectors: 6 out of 8 and 3 out of 6. 5. The rest of volunteer recruitment status: 14 out of 44. 6. Ken's To-do list 1. Status on Registration For an archived version of the registration info, visit: http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/sh...ad.php?t=48294. There are now 8 teams paid for their registration: Team 1351, 1280, 192, 766, 100, 1458, 114, and 846. School started last week, and there are 7 teams who mentioned intent to register 2 weeks ago. Another 4 says they are hopping to register. We will have a final number of teams on September 1st telling us go or no go with Cal Games. 2. Planning group's visit to WRRF storage space and & Pioneer HS We spent an afternoon looking at the supplies and visiting Pioneer HS. We talked to Lonny Weissman about the entire setup process, here are some high lights: - We will have a detailed inventory of our supplies, telling exactly how many more roll of tapes and extension cord, among other things, we need. - Power in the pit area will be limited by the circuit breaker panel in the mini gym. A number of options will be explored, but at the moment, we are looking at only allowing laptops and battery chargers in the pit area. - We looked at the conditions of carpets and decided we need to trim and measure them Friday morning before laying them down in the main gym. - We looked at places to load/unload the trucks, and discovered the best play to do so is right next to the gyms. - Floor plans of the main gym and mini gym are being drawn from measurements we got during our visit. - A truck will need to be reserved, and a truck driver recruited. If no one volunteers to drive the truck, then we may need to hire someone. 3. Field Elements: Getting ready to do the work We talked with Lonny and he said the mini gym will not be available for us to store field elements. But he indicated there might be room in a workshop area. As soon as that's confirmed, Dave will be able to gather the field elements together and ask for volunteers to work on them. We are looking at a couple of meetings with a small group of folks deciding what needs to be done and doing the actual work. Stay tuned for announcement from Dave! 4. Referees & Inspectors: 6 out of 8 and 3 out of 6. An update from Randy Lam indicated we have 6 people volunteered to be referees: Randy Lam, Andy Casper (1458), Eric Medford (1458), Bryan Gray, Tom Murphy (481), and Cory McBride (254). Alan Federman will be our head inspector, with Mike Schmit and Eugene Brooks working with him to inspect robots. That's 6 out of 8 Refs and 3 out of 6 Inspectors! So let me know if you are interested in becoming a Referee or an inspector. 5. The rest of volunteer recruitment status: 14 out of 44. For an archived version of the volunteer recruitment announcement, visit: http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/sh...ad.php?t=48749. Overall, we only had a few teams volunteering for the work shifts. That's understandable, though, considering the low number of teams registered. We also have a few folks volunteering to be our announcer, music DJ, team queuing, field reset, raising the count to 14 out of 44. As soon as we have more teams registered within the next week or two, though, we are going to spend more effort recruiting volunteers! 6. Ken's To-do list Is it another week already? Wow, time fly by so fast! Let's see what I need to do in the next two weeks: - I need to check with Jim Beck about using the FIRST logo on banners. - I need to continue talking to FIRST/SCRRF folks about the scoring system. - I need to send out another e-mail about awards/side events, and make a recommendation to the planning group. - I need to send out an announcement of our September 16th meeting. - I need to schedule a visit with Dave Sheridan to the storage space for inventorying. - I need to finish the floor plan of the main gym. - I need to provide Lonny Weissman with the numbers of tables and chairs we need. - I need to create a master list of volunteers and contact info. - I need to make personal correspondence with the folks indicating interest to volunteer. - I need to e-mail details of our event to the Silicon Valley Regional committee. That's all folks, have a great week! -Ken Leung 06' Cal Games Manager |
