Yeah, I love tabs!

Some of the new tab features, like the one that opens links in a new tab instead of a window, are really cool. I can't wait to see it completed.

Wohoo, first to vote for Opera!

I'm my experience and on my laptop I've experienced quicker load times with Opera. Plus, I generally just like the features more than FireFox.

Re: Firefox Beta 2! (also poll)

I second that Opera vote. Clark and I probably make up that 1.8%

Anyway, Opera 9 already has most of those features built in. Not to mention widgets and Bit-torrent support.
I use the spell check in Opera all the time.

So, why doesn't Opera get all the hype?

I've never liked opera. The plugin base for Firefox is both comical and amazing. Nowhere else can I get a Litany of Fear plugin for a web browser. Many linux packages come default with Firefox, not all do, but many do.

I guess it's the feel of the software. While Opera is now freeware and no doubt great software, for a long time, it was merely shareware, a status that alienated alot of users. Firefox was the first software to be built to break the Microsoft monopoly and has that rebellious GNU feel to it, the one that says "I was created by people who are working to benefit users over making a quick buck".

As far as software goes, it's clear Opera is a better performer. However, I would gladly sacrifice 1 second or so difference it takes to load both for the comical userbase of Firefox.

That's my .02

Re: Firefox Beta 2! (also poll)

I have used Firefox now for about a year. I used IE6 out of habit, but had Firefox installed and would use it on occasion. When the IE7 beta came out, I installed it to see what it was like. I used it for about 15 minutes and it pushed me over the edge and I promptly switched all of my shortcuts and settings to go to Firefox. IE7 has the tabs, but it just doesn't feel right compared to FF.

Re: Firefox Beta 2! (also poll)

Although I prefer Firefox (primarily for all the custom plugins I use), I have no problems with using Opera. As long as it isn't Internet Exploder, or any other IE-based browser, I'll use it. IE7 is slightly better previous versions, but it's still lightyears behind Firefox or Opera.

Mozilla (Firefox included) is under the MPL (Mozilla Public License) and has nothing to do with GNU. I don't see how GNU has a rebellious feel to it, since they don't compete with Microsoft in any shape or way. GNU has no OS (Linux does not count, trust me), and is no direct threat. The only reason it could be seen as rebellious is because all of the software they create is open source under the GPL license, but even back in the olden days stuff like UNIX was open source so that people could comment on it and add changes. Hence the Berkeley System Distribution.

IE 7 with regards to plugins and whatnot might be light years behind, but at least they have fixed their rendering issues. Since they have fixed their rendering issues the box hack has stopped working for their browser as well, so it will be more standards compliant.
