How to open a step file....

This is robably a really primitive question. We're trying to put the AndyMark 2 Speed Gearboxes into inventor, but don't know how to open the step file so that we can see the dimensions that we need. Can somebody help?

It's been awhile since I've used Inventor, but it ought to have native support for opening STEP (.step or.stp) files. If it's not an available option in the Open dialog box, check for an Import option.

If it can't open STEP files, why does anyone use it? Gah.

Re: How to open a step file....

if you want step by step instructions here they are:

1) open file menu
2) click on "open"
3) go to "types of file", and open the list, and scroll down to step file, it should have (*.stp, *.ste*,.step) next to it, and select it
4) browse for your file like you would any
5) click open

if you already knew how to do that, and were looking for more detailed help, i apologize
