Re: pic: Team Numbers in Humbling Places

I know this is with good intentions, but there exists a very specific flag code and while I haven't read it personally, I can't possible believe the overlaying of numbers and words onto the flag would be permissable. It seems a bit wrong to me.

Technically, this isn't the US flag. It is, on the other hand, a representation of one, which doesn't fall under the same guidelines as a standard flag would. If I'm not mistaken, on a US flag, the bottom stripe is supposed to be just a slight bit larger than all the rest, which doesn't appear to be true in this one.

There are a lot of things you are not supposed to do with the American Flag that is abused every day.

http://www.ushistory.org/betsy/flagetiq.html

Did you eat off of an American Flag plate or have a Flag napkins during your party on the 4th of July this year? Do you have a flag on your school backpack or team shirt by any chance?

If so, you are in violation of the flag ettiquette.

And yes, it is etiquette and not law.

Quote:
Are there penalties for violating the Flag Code?
No. The Flag Code is intended as a guide to be followed on a purely voluntary basis to insure proper respect for the flag.

Re: pic: Team Numbers in Humbling Places

If I remember correctly, which doesn't happen very often, didn't the government (congress or high courts) vote to allow flag defamation under free speech? Or maybe it was visa versa.

I don't remember where i heard this (i think on the news) a reporter brought up the same thing and I guess the government gave them permission to do this/display it..(even though you really don't *need* permission)
