Team Names

Hey, quick question. I am helping a new team start up at one of our sister schools and they have decided on the name "Team Titanium". Does anyone know if this is original, that is what they are trying for? Does it matter? Is there any database that I might search in the future?
Using the search function here and then google's ability to search the openFIRST and usFIRST websites returned nothing.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks again, Fender

I can't remember coming across a Team Titanium in three seasons of FRC and one of FVC, but I'm by no means the definitive resource for that.

That said, over the years the Palmetto Regional has hosted MORT (also known as the Marauders), Raider Robotix, the Robo-Raiders, the Robo-Raiders (two different teams in different towns, 1398 and 1961), and the semi-pirate-themed Aye Aye Robot. And don't even try to count the number of Knights in FIRST--there's been several. (NASA Knights, the Northern Knights, Royal Knights, etc., etc.) Heck, there were even two SPAMs a few years back (and may still be there). A little differentiation should help you out, if you know there's a similarly-named team in the area.

Hmmm... I have not heard of another team called "Team Titanium". Of course, that does not mean that there is none. There is a "Titanium Tigers" team, I believe.

FIRST lists team names in their event programs. If you could get a copy of a program from the Championships AND each Regional from 2006, then you could find out. Or... people on this forum could check their programs from the regionals they attended and see if there are any "Team Titaniums" out there, and then report back to this thread.

Good luck,
Andy B.

I looked in FIRST Wiki and found an index for FRC teams
I didn't see an index for FVC or FLL teams.

Re: Team Names

I think it could be safe to say it's original. I've never heard of another Team Titanium. Could you give us the pleasure as to how you all came up with the name? Was it random or is there a background?

Re: Team Names

Good Name.

I can't believe that is still out there. Wouldn't you hate to try and find a name now. It wasn't that hard when there was only 300 teams. Hats off to teams that come up with good names now.

Re: Team Names

okay... well thanks. It helps a lot.

And to Budda648 the team is from Lee's Summit West, their mascot is the Titans. And Lee's Summit North is working on a team as well. I don't know where they are on planning or anything else. Even then we are expecting all 3 high schools to have teams making this to be an interesting and competitive year.

Thanks again,
Fender

tehehe to make it worse there is also team 75... The Roboraiders

as long as your team numbers aren't extremely similar, and the name isn't exactly the same, you should be fine, no one makes too big of a deal with repetitive names(that i know of), i usually refer to teams by their number it makes it easier... but if you can think of an original name, i will personally bring you a cookie(or something of the like) at any competition we attend that you are at.

I can confirm this - I have copy of the official list of team names from 2006. Team 1160 is the only team with a name containing "titanium", though.
