You cant expect it to not hurt, because you did not intend to hurt them. - KenWittlief [more]

[WRRF]: Cal Games Publicity - Help Get the Word Out!

Hi all Cal Games participants,
I am working on publicity for Cal Games. I will be sending out press releases to Bay Area newspapers/tv stations/radio stations. I will also try to send out to many of the local school principals and school district superintendents.

Here's where I can use YOUR help:

1. Make sure your local school and district are aware of the Cal Games by sending them a copy of the attached school administrator letter and a flyer. (email is good, hard copy better, hand delivery of hard copy the best). You may want to customize the letter for your own team (use the Microsoft Word version to do this). People to target are the school principal, superintendent, district assistant superintendents, school board members.

2. Keep your current and potential corporate team sponsors informed by sending them a copy of the corporate sponsor letter and a flyer. Again, email is ok, hard copy better, hand delivery of hard copy the best). Encourage them to attend Cal Games. A live robotics competition is the best sales tool for your team. Again, you may want to customize the letter for your own team.

3. Use your own school's publicity tools to help get the message out. Does your school have a website that could display the information? a parent newsletter? a student newspaper? school announcements? At the end of this email, I have sample wording that you can use.

4. Post flyers at your school.

I've posted several publicity related materials on the CD-Media section of the Chief Delphi site:

Sample text for school/parent newsletters:
Robotics Teams to Compete in 2006 WRRF California Robot Games

Robotics teams from Northern California will be competing in the 2006 California Robot Games organized by the Western Region Robotics Forum. The event will be on Saturday, October 28, at Pioneer High School at 1290 Blossom Hill Road in San Jose from 9:00 a.m.– 4:00 p.m. In this exciting "Aim High" game where 135-pound robots compete in three-versus-three alliances, the action is a combination of autonomous (software control) and remote control. The robots have to accurately shoot balls into low corner and high goals, as well as climb a steep ramp. Approximately 24 teams will be competing.

This event will be as exciting for the spectators as it will be for the student participants. It is free and open to the public.

If you have any questions or need a CD or hard copies of any of these materials, please contact me.
Thanks for your help,

Laura Rhodes
