64 split into 39 and 1018.

NASA grants aside, who sponsors the most teams?

1018 is the Pike Robodevils in Indiana. Try again.

Re: Which Sponsor has the Most Successful teams?

Team 64 the Gila Monsters split into team 39 and team 1013 acording to this thread http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/sh...=GIla+Monsters

Second if you want to look at it, UTC and GM are the only two that can hold the crown.
201 is another GM team that has been very successful, with a trip to Einstein this year.

UTC is probably the most underated though. 173,174,175,176,177,179,and 180 are among the best in FIRST year in and year out. This year they had 6 regional victories.

There seems to be a correlation between UTC teams and GM teams. This year 494 won Buckeye with 174, last year we partnered with 179 at championship, 173 picked 66 another GM team when they won the championship and this year 177 rounded out their Galileo winning aliance with team 201. I just thought that was weird

This is an interesting question in its own right.

The Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation (based in Kansas City) currently sponsors 47 FRC teams.

I believe in intuition and inspiration. Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited, whereas imagination embraces the entire world, stimulating progress, giving birth to evolution. It is, strictly speaking, a real factor in scientific research.

In that case, Motorola again with at last count 180+ graduates (from 12 years of Wildstang alone not including the 7 other Motorola teams over the years) including nine now working at Motorola (and several graduates from other teams now working at Motorola) and one (that I know of) working at Underwriter's Labs who oversee safety for competitions now and one teacher in our school district.

BTW, remember I am not a Motorola employee.

Four years from now a FIRST trophy will be worth about $12 on ebay. A four year engineering or science degree will have a life-time salary value starting around $2M, way more if you branch out and run your own business.

And the contributions to our society and the future of humanity are going to come from people with the best education and the best motivation.

Which sponsor has worked toward the goals of FIRST with the most success?

Beats me!
Ken, that's a different question entirely though. I didn't ask which sponsor was the most successful, I asked which sponsor has the most successful teams. Certainly graduating students, spreading science and engineering, etc can be criteria in that (each person has their own definition of success in FIRST), and you can pose which sponsor has had teams you felt accomplished those goals the best. Especially considering all four of the sponsors I have mentioned, as well as Motorola (which Al has mentioned in this thread) have teams that have won the Chairman's Award.

NASA (only "NASA Base" teams, including all NASA grant teams would be unfair): 116, 118, 122, 233, 254, 330, 364, 368

Delphi: 45, 47, 48, 703, 868

UTC: 173-180

Which do you think can field the strongest line up?

Note: I said "most successful" not "best" for those of you who don't like to label FIRST teams as the "best".

While I find it interesting that you bring up the UTC block as I like to call it, you are missing team 181 in there, and also a lot of UTC teams that have been up and coming in recent years, although haven't neccessarily gained as much attention. I must say though that you really can't judge a program based off of sponsors, as some teams only get money from a sponsor, and others get an engineering support staff devoted to the program. Also to single out any one sponsor in FIRST as being most successful based on wins is foolish as most wins in a competition are based a lot on luck, and a lot on strategy. I agree with Ken, as well as that I feel that any sponsor of any FIRST team deserves recognition because they realize what an amazing program FIRST is.

I know exactly what you mean. My team is sponsored by Northrop Grumman: Space Technology (branch that mostly makes satellites) and not only do we get some great engineers, but 3-4 students each year get a paid internship. I received andinternship in the summer of 2005, came back in summer of 2006 and now I week two days a week there. I'll come back next summer and qualify for a program where I'll work during the summer (a nice wage too), and they reimburse our college tuition on top of he pay rate.

So, my team may not have been the top team (I've been on since fall of '04), but I still received a great education and experience in engineering that showed me what I can and want to do with my life; It then gave me the tools and opportunities to do so.

Re: Which Sponsor has the Most Successful teams?

Looking up north, the Toronto District School Board and the efforts of Mr. Mark Breadner, a UFh and company cannot be overlooked. I am not sure of any other school board in any other region that has given support to as many teams as the TDSB. From my days as a student, I had heard that they paid for every team's initial entry fee into what was then the Canadian Regional. They have positions and chairs within their organization dedicated to FIRST and continue to actively support it with intiatives like the Innovation fund. If someone with a bit more information could clarify their exact position in relation to how teams operate and their expenses that would be great. I just know that everytime I walk into a Canadian regional, over 90% of the teams that are there have a TDSB and the familiar half apple logo attached to their robot.

Re: Which Sponsor has the Most Successful teams?

If you're going to say that one sponsor has x teams, and the other has more, and therefore the one with x teams has more awards per team, then beatty definitely takes the cake, even though they sponsor one team.

i would venture to say, however, that the company that gives the most to teams/FIRST is the real winner.

Re: Which Sponsor has the Most Successful teams?

Just because someone did it for GM and NASA, I'll do it for the UTC block.

173-2 Regional Championships, 3 Regional Finalist, 1 Division championship that didn't win Einstein, 1 Einstein championship

174-1 regional championship

175-6 regional championships, 4 regional finalist, 3 division championships that didn't win Einstein, 3 National chairman’s award finalist, 1 regional chairman’s award, 1 championship chairman's award

176-2 regional championships, 2 regional finalist (by the way, 1st left BAE 2006 off their list for 176), 2 division finalist, 1 national championship, 1 regional engineering inspiration

177-4 regional championships, 1 regional finalist, 2 Division championships that didn't win Einstein, 1 division finalist

178-2 regional Engineering inspiration awards

179-2 regional championships, 1 division finalist

180-2 regional championships, 1 Championship finalist, 1 division finalist

181-2 regional finalist, 1 Engineering inspiration

So,
21 Regional Championships
10 Regional Finalists
6 Division Championships
5 Division Finalists
1 National Finalist
2 National/World Championships
4 Regional Engineering Inspiration awards
1 Regional Chairman's Award
3 Championship Chairman's Finalist
1 National Chairman's Award

I'm still a Scouting Nerd at heart! I love data!

Not that there aren't other UTC sponsored teams outside of the block, there are many. I have a list.
