Which Sponsor has the Most Successful teams?
Karthik and I were having a discussion over which sponsor fields the most succussful teams perennially. It basically came down to 4 major sponsors with real claims for it.
GM: 65, 66, 67, 68, 1114, 1503 (70 and 494 are also sponsored by Chrysler, so we decided to leave them out) NASA (only "NASA Base" teams, including all NASA grant teams would be unfair): 116, 118, 122, 233, 254, 330, 364, 368 Delphi: 45, 47, 48, 703, 868 UTC: 173-180 Which do you think can field the strongest line up? Note: I said "most successful" not "best" for those of you who don't like to label FIRST teams as the "best". Last edited by Lil' Lavery : 12-10-2006 at 08:43. |

Re: Which Sponsor has the Most Successful teams?
Rolls-Royce has had some pretty successful teams. Most of them may not be so nationally known or are a "big name teams", but their stats speak for themselves. (This is just purely based on wins/awards.)
(note: Rolls-Royce currently sponsors 8 teams within the Indianapolis metro area, with a possibility of some more for 2007) 234 Awards Won: 2006 CMP KPC&B Entrepreunership 2006 MI Website Award 2006 AZ Imagery 2006 AZ KPC&B Entrepreunership 2006 AZ Website Award 2006 AZ Woodie Flowers Regional Award (Chris Fultz) 2005 FL Woodie Flowers Regional Award (Scott Ritchie) 2005 FL KPC&B Entrepreunership 2005 IN J&J Sportsmanship 2004 AZ KPC&B Entrepreunership 2004 IL Regional Chairman's Award 2004 AZ Website Design Award 2003 AZ Regional Chairman's Award 2003 AZ Website Design Award 2003 VA Website Design Award 2001 FL Delphi "Driving Tomorrow's Technology" 2001 IL Judge's Award 2001 IL Regional Champion 2001 NAT Delphi "Driving Tomorrow's Technology" 393 Awards Won: 2006 PIT GM Industrial Design 2006 PIT Regional Finalist 2005 SAC Regional Chairman's Award 2001 TX Xerox Creativity 2001 TX Finalist 829 no info available 868 Awards Won: 2006 IN Autodesk Visualization Award 2006 IN GM Industrial Design 2006 PIT Xerox Creativity 2006 PIT Autodesk Visualization Award 2005 CMP Autodesk Rising Star Visualization Award 2005 MI Delphi "Driving Tomorrow's Technology" 2005 IN KPC&B Entrepreunership 2004 CMP Championship Finalist 2004 CMP Champion - Galileo Division 2003 MO KPC&B Entrepreunership 2003 GA GM Industrial Design 2003 CMP GM Industrial Design 1018 Awards Won: 2006 OH Regional Finalist 1024 Awards Won: 2006 IN Imagery 2006 IN Motorola Quality 2005 IN Imagery 2005 IN Regional Champion 2005 MO RadioShack Innovation in Control Award 2004 MI Regional Champion 2004 MO Imagery 2003 MO Rookie All-Star 1529 no info available 1741 Awards Won: 2006 IN Rookie Inspiration Award 2006 IN Regional Finalist |

(I know the GM list has at least 3) I know you guys were talking more about the multi team sponsors, but when making a list of successful sponsors, Beatty has to be included. If I were to pick from the lists you have there, I would have to say that the GM teams are the most consistently successful. - Eric |

Re: Which Sponsor has the Most Successful teams?
I could be wrong – but didn’t they have the same kind of debates on episodes of Sienfield? I seem to remember how George and Elaine would compile a list of this or that based on their informed opinions. Then Jerry would mess them up by pointing out that it depends on how they define yada-yada. And then Kramer would try to form some metrics, but would soon end up so frustrated that he’d have to do a pratfall.
Didn’t ya just love the way they’d spend the whole show talking bout stuff, but never resolving anything? [/ ] |

Re: Which Sponsor has the Most Successful teams?
I don't think you can say anybody besides GM for this.
64 (now split to 39 and 11??): Three regional championships, two division championships, one Championship finalist, and the most awards in one season of any team in FIRST: 2005 CMP Championship Finalist 2005 CMP Champion - Galileo Division 2005 NV Imagery 2005 NV Motorola Quality 2005 NV Regional Champion 2005 NV Safety Award 2005 CO Autodesk Visualization Award 2005 CO GM Industrial Design 2005 CO Regional Finalist 2005 AZ Imagery 2005 AZ Website Award 2005 AZ Motorola Quality 2005 AZ Autodesk Visualization Award 65: Two Regional Chairman's Awards, one Chairman's Award Finalist, one Einstein championship, one Regional Champion, one Championship finalist, and four regional finalist. (And plenty of other hardware thrown in for good measure.) 66: One RCA, one Einstein championship, three Regional Championships, one division finalist, two regional finalists. 67: These folks need no introduction. Chairman's Award winners and world champions in the same year, a Woodie Flowers Award, three RCAs or Chairman's Award Finalists, one division championship (not counting the 2005 win), seven regional championships, and so many other awards that I have to scroll to see them all. 68: Two-time regional champion, four-time regional finalist, and plenty of technical awards. 1114: In just four years, they've won the Regional Chairman's Award, they're a five-time (five-time!) regional champion, a division finalist, two regional finalists, and quite a few technical awards, especially considering the challenge of trying to decide who to award the awards to in a collaborative setting. 1503: Two years into FIRST, and they're at or near the top of the field on some of the biggest stages in FIRST outside Atlanta: 2006 Greater Toronto Regional: Champion. 2006 Waterloo Regional: Champion. 2006 Great Lakes Regional: Champion. 2005 Greater Toronto Regional: Finalist. 2005 Waterloo Regional: Rookie Inspiration Award. So, to sum things up: One Chairman's Award Three Einstein Championships One Woodie Flowers Award Four Division Championships that didn't result in an Einstein championship (plus one Championship Finalist in the pre-division era) Seven Regional Chairman's Awards or Chairman's Award Finalists (which, by my understanding, is functionally similar) TWENTY-FOUR Regional Championships If that's not dominance, I don't know what is. |

Not bad, but also note that NASA's got an extra team on their side (eight to GM's seven).

Re: Which Sponsor has the Most Successful teams?
I normally don't get involved in these types of discussions, but Motorola should be included in that list. They are a long time national sponsor, having had several teams over their many years of participation and continue to sponsor teams in Chicago, PA and Florida. Can't speak to Dillard's SigmaCat history (with any accuracy) but to Wildstang, we have placed high in the Championship by going to at least divisional finals for the past 11 years, winning in 2003 and being awarded the Chairman's in 2006. Sigmacats' SOAP is one of the longest and most successful scouting programs in this organization and they continue to provide archival video and match lists for all participants as well as fielding some incredible robots and robot innovations. All of this while continuing to support FLL in Illinois (I believe the largest registration on the planet) and backing the state FLL competition.

Re: Which Sponsor has the Most Successful teams?
I think so far this thread is lost in deep weeds.
The most successful FIRST sponsor would be the one that put the most HS students into science and engineering programs at colleges and universities. Four years from now a FIRST trophy will be worth about $12 on ebay. A four year engineering or science degree will have a life-time salary value starting around $2M, way more if you branch out and run your own business. And the contributions to our society and the future of humanity are going to come from people with the best education and the best motivation. Which sponsor has worked toward the goals of FIRST with the most success? Beats me! |
