PAPER BALLET all the way!!
Actually the solution is quite simple: leave a paper trail. After a person votes, print off a receipt with a scannable bar code and a listing of their votes.

Not a bad idea. But whats with the privacy issue? It would be better if they don't do it with persons name and information on it. Just a receipt stating who is voted for would be good enough.
Something similar happening in VA right now. Votes are being recounted; I'm hoping it doesn't make its way to the court...

Re: Please Vote!

I voted! w00t!

The Perfect Blue Storm swept through Rhode Island, and Democrats took everything except for governor (which isn't so bad; he was a decent governor and we needed that after many a corruption scandal). I myself voted the Democrat ticket (for the record, I'm independent). We now have our first female Lt. Governor (and here is where I give a shout-out to our neighbors up north, Massachusetts, for electing their first African-American governor). Also, our constitutional amendment to let the Narragansett tribe build a casino (as far as I know, we're the only state that requires a constitutional amendment to let a Native American tribe build a casino even on their own land) was rejected (it was a very terrible deal, and the Narragansetts would've gotten only 5% of the profits anyway). Other than that, the ballot was prettymuch bonds for different projects (we might actually get better highway roads now ).

I have to say: I hate politcs, but I love election season.

Re: Please Vote!

I'll say that I didn't vote. My reason? I didn't know enough about the candidates. I think everyone has the right the vote and you should use that vote if you really know what you're voting for. At the moment, I don't care about politics at all. Way too many other things going on - so here's to those who did voted yesterday, and to those who didn't vote blindly.

It does, it prints out a long reciept that is stored on the roll with all of your info on it in case their is a recount. It is actually kinda cool. There is both an electronic copy and a hard copy.

My english teacher told us that only 40% of all registered voters in the country actually decided to vote. What does that say about fair democracy?

We had about a 65% turnout here in Virginia, which is really good for a non presidential election.

It says that, in a democracy, you're given the right to speak out in nearly whichever way you'd wish, not that you have to.

For an "off-year" (non-presidential) election, 40% is sadly a good turnout. In my county 57% of the registered voters went to the polls, whereas over 70% came out in 2004.
